Up until quite recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the company offered phone support together with live chat support, email service and various online tutorials / tools.
Regrettably, the telephone support has now been discontinued. Instead you’ll need to use live chat (24/7) or email support. So far so good with Getresponse, but in regards to templates, Getresponse arguably falls down a little.
Regrettably, the templates supplied from the box look somewhat dated; they aren’t as attractive as those offered by Mailchimp or even Campaign Monitor (and I slightly prefer Aweber’s offering here also ).
On the plus side, the templates are very tweakable – you can change fonts, layouts and vision easily enough using the controls supplied; and naturally there’s nothing to stop you simply designing your HTML email template and importing the code for this.
Additionally, you will find a lot of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they’re presented in easy-to-understand categories, therefore it’s generally pretty straightforward to find a good beginning point to get a template and edit it before you’re happy with the plan.
If you are really unhappy with the templates offered by Getresponse, there’s also the choice of purchasing a template by a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is the assortment of RSS-to-email applications options aren’t very extensive (just 11 templates are provided – well short of the 700+ accessible for routine newsletters!) Landing page Builder

But unless you are on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ program, the Getresponse landing page functionality is fairly limited: you can just create 1 landing page, which could simply be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Also, and very importantly, you can’t utilize the landing page A/B testing performance on the least expensive Getresponse program (whereby the machine shows a sample of your customers different versions of your landing page, calculates conversion speeds, and ultimately rolls out the top performing landing page mechanically ).
If you are serious about landing pages – plus they are unquestionably a useful attribute – then it is definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You may purchase the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an extra $15 a month, but quite frustratingly, even though the add-on permits you to display an infinite amount of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I’d just go for a few of the more expensive plans (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do) .

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is that the need to export data to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool in order to do mailouts (or the necessity to export data from the email marketing tool into your CRM to include prospects to it).
When I saw Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM attribute in their plans I had been intrigued – this could potentially do away with all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I was not that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool as you can only use it to perform rather basic tasks: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and monitor activity (mails, phone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this particular front. The CRM is currently integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users into a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders based on the accession of a new contact into a pipeline phase.
An example of how to use this operation is as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular point on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your website they completed a form ;
you can then send a automated email tailored to this pipeline stage a few days afterwards;
and based on the actions they took with regard to this email (clicking on a certain link etc) you could automatically move them onto another stage of the pipeline and invite invite them into a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can not think of any email advertising product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of functionality you normally need to look at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are a few big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity tracking. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to a lead or client; doing this keeps a record of this communication in the contact’s history. There is currently no way of doing this together with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one mails to leads or customers.
And strangely, when you click on a contact in a bargain pipeline, you can not see their contact activity — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you have delivered to your leads aren’t displayed. To see this, you have to go out of the CRM part of Getresponse, hunt for your own contact in the contacts section and then click on their details. But guess what? Doing this doesn’t display their deal history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike dedicated CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts to a pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list , then go to the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and hunt your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a deal right to a pipeline and then enter the contact details of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. But that said, it’s a new attribute and the stuff it could perform on the automation aspect is remarkable. I am hopeful that this feature becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally utilized as a lead-generation tactic, the notion of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is extremely attractive.
The pricing is also very aggressive too compared to established webinar solutions. For instance, among the leading webinar providers, Gotowebinar, charges $199 per month to host webinars with up to 500 attendees; you can really do the same (plus a great deal more) with Getresponse for $165 (so long as your listing size is below 25,000).
With respect to attendee limitations, the Getresponse’Pro’ plan permits you to sponsor a webinar with around 100 participants; the’Max’ plan’s limit is 500.

I do have to pull Getresponse up on something relating to deliverability nevertheless: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it’s advisable to use a platform named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM with Getresponse – but just on the costlier Getresponse’Max’ programs.
Although I have not struck any deliverability problems using the less costly plans, competing goods do not force you to invest in a more expensive strategy to avail of the feature — it’d be useful to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two methods you can employ to add subscribers to a mailing list: using a’single opt-in’ or a’double opt-in’ process.
If you utilize one opt-in procedure, the individual registering to your own mailing list is added to your mailing list the minute they hit the submit button on your sign up form.

Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible way to make blocks of content and move them about an e-newsletter, in practice it’s quite user friendly to use and can lead to accidental deletion of content, or positioning of it at the incorrect part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a useful tool – it’s just that the execution of it might be somewhat better.
Also, as described above, the CRM instrument might be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse supplies is completely operational and the free trial is not contingent upon providing credit card information.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I am getting charged for a commodity that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it limits the number of readers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if that could be raised a bit, as it might help prospective users try the tool out in more’real world’ situations.

Provided that you are pleased to use one of those entry-level’Email’ plans, the pay-per-month Getresponse programs are on the whole cheaper than those provided by many of its key competitors, especially if you’ve got a fairly high number of email addresses on your database.

The only well-known service I could think of that comes in considerably more affordable is Mad Mimi, which costs $42 per month to sponsor up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the functionality offered by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as extensive as Getresponse’s or really another products mentioned previously ).
It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that depending on the size of your listing, it might occasionally be a slightly cheaper alternative than Getresponse.
In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 recording database is the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally cheaper, if much less functional offering for $12 per month.
Two final things to be Conscious of about the pricing front:
Some competing suppliers — especially Mailchimp – offer free account for users that have a few documents (but these don’t supply the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid program ).
As stated before, if you are ready to pay upfront for 1 or two years, you can avail of significant discounts the other competitors do not yet provide.

It is also among the most interesting products of its kind – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. It is hard to consider any competing product that offers this’all round’ proposition, and it is what continues to convince us to use it for Style Factory’s email advertising.
Some improvements to Getresponse do need to be made nonetheless, especially where the email programmer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and less responsive than it should be. A good deal of improvements can be made into the data capture forms also, especially for users wanting to exhibit them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader feedback, there are developments that could be made to the support offering.
Overall though I speed Getresponse very highly – you receive considerable bang for your dollar with this product.
