We are going to discuss all these features in depth below, but first, let’s look at pricing.
Getresponse’s attribute set is possibly among the most comprehensive on the market.
Not only does it provide all the crucial stuff you’d expect from an email marketing platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned above, it’s been expanding the feature set to the point at which it is morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The inquiry is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let us drill down into the crucial features to find out.

If you are really not pleased with the templates offered by Getresponse, there is also the choice of purchasing a template from a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is the range of RSS-to-email software options aren’t so extensive (only 11 templates are provided – well short of the 700+ available for regular newsletters!) And a few of them played up a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Autoresponders are e-newsletters that are sent to your readers at intervals depending on you — you can put them up so that immediately after somebody signals up to your mailing list, they get a welcome message from your company; a week later they could get a discount offer for some of your goods or services; three weeks later they could receive an encouragement to accompany you on social networking. And so Forth.
Getresponse’s autoresponder functionality is a key selling point – it offers one of the most extensive feature sets available.
You can send either time-based or action-based messages; time-based choices comprise cycles like the example above, and also action-based messages may be triggered by user actions or information, such as:

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will typically create far more leads in the event, instead of simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Website, they point users to appealing’squeeze pages’ comprising clear info and a clean, well-designed data capture form.

If you are serious about landing pages – and they’re unquestionably a useful attribute – then it’s definitely worth looking at one of the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an extra $15 per month, but quite frustratingly, even though the add-on allows you to show an infinite number of landing pages to potential subscribers, it does not include A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive plans (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do) .
Getresponse was ahead of its competitors for quite some time with its responsive email design functionality, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that if a user is reading it onto a mobile device, the design and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than most similar products when it comes to displaying a responsive record of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’cellphone preview’ button to get an instant snapshot of your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating facets of using many well-known CRM tools is the need to export information to CSV and straight back into your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the need to export data from the email marketing tool into your CRM to add prospects to it).
When I saw Getresponse recently introducing a brand new CRM attribute into their plans I had been intrigued – that could potentially do away with all that data exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in 1 area.
Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool as you could only use it in order to carry out quite basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and monitor activity (emails, phone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this particular front. The CRM is currently integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users to a CRM pipeline according to their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how you could use this functionality is as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular point on a sales pipeline depending on the page of your website that they finished a form on;
you can then send a automated email tailored to that pipeline period a few days afterwards;
and based on the action they took in regards to this email (clicking on a certain link ) you could automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and invite invite them into a webinar.
It’s very smart stuff, and that I can’t think of any email marketing product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of functionality you normally need to appear at committed — and more expensive — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it’s not all fantastic news on the CRM front — there are a few big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is email activity tracking. Other CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to some lead or client; doing so keeps a list of this communication in the contact’s history. There is now no method of doing this with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to leads or customers.
And oddly, if you click on a contact within a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact activity — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications that you’ve delivered to your prospects aren’t displayed. To observe this, you need to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, hunt for your own contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not display their deal history.
Task management is non-existent too: unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, add a deal and search your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to add a deal directly to a pipeline and then input the contact information of your lead or client at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it is a new attribute and the stuff it could perform on the automation aspect is impressive. I am hopeful that this feature becomes developed over time since done right, it is possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to sponsor webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are usually utilized as a lead-generation tactic, the idea of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under the exact same roof is extremely appealing.

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters sent that successfully hit inboxes – is obviously a very important point to look at when choosing an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing suppliers are that forthright in their deliverability rates; but Getresponse seems pretty open about this, with this to say about it on their own website:

If you use use one opt-in procedure, the individual signing up to your mailing list is added to your mailing list the minute they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in process, the person signing up to your list is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he have to click before being subscribed.
The main advantage of a single sampling procedure is that it makes it really simple for users to sign up for a mailing list; it also generally increases conversion rate and so the amount of readers on your list. A dual opt-in process is best for verifying the folks subscribing to a record are using real email addresses and leads to cleaner information and more precise stats (because receptive rates etc. are calculated based on a list containing just real email addresses).
Now, the fantastic news here is that Getresponse allows you to take advantage of either opt-in approach – this isn’t the case with all competing goods. Thus a thumbs up for Getresponse for being flexible on this.
You are probably thinking that all this sounds quite fine — but to be honest, I think there is a lot of room for advancement with regard to Getresponse form templates.
For a start, they’re not responsive (i.e., they won’t resize themselves automatically to match the device they are being watched on).
Furthermore, no controllers are offered by Getresponse to change forms off or on on specific devices or individual pages of your site. At the light of Google’s new approach to pop-ups (where websites can have a hit in search results if they display’intrusive interstitials’ on mobile devices) this is a small concern.

1 place I feel that could be significantly better from a user-friendliness point of view is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide a very flexible approach to make blocks of articles and transfer them around an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of material, or positioning of it in the wrong part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head around it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a helpful tool – it is just that the implementation of it might be rather better.
Additionally, as explained above, the CRM instrument could be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial which Getresponse supplies is fully functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon providing credit card details.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I’m getting charged for a commodity I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it restricts the amount of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be good if that could be raised a little, as it would help prospective users try out the tool in more’real-world’ situations.

The only well-known service I could think of that comes in significantly cheaper is Mad Mimi, which charges $42 per month to host up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the performance provided by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as broad as Getresponse’s or really another products mentioned previously ).
It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing rings, meaning that depending on how big your listing, it may occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database will be the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally more affordable, if less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be Conscious of on the pricing front:
Some competing providers — notably Mailchimp – offer completely free accounts for users with a small number of documents (but these do not supply the full range of features that you get on a paid plan).
As stated earlier, if you are prepared to pay upfront for 1 or 2 decades, you can avail of substantial discounts the other competitors do not yet provide.
So the most important thing is that Getresponse is fairly competitive in the pricing department. However, what about features? Xbee Getresponse
Getresponse represents one of the more cost-effective ways to host and speak using an email database.
It is also among the most intriguing products of its type – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under a single roof. It’s hard to consider any rival product that offers this’all round’ proposition, and it is what continues to convince us to use it for Style Factory’s email advertising.
Some improvements to Getresponse do have to be made however, especially where the email designer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is more fiddly and less responsive than it ought to be. A good deal of improvements can be made to the data capture types also, particularly for consumers wishing to display them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader feedback, there are developments which could be made to the service offering.
All in all though I speed Getresponse very tremendously – you get substantial bang for your buck with this item.
