Introduction WordPress Mailerlite
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? WordPress Mailerlite
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the last ten years. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it really stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? WordPress Mailerlite
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Rules, as well as an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — which we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. WordPress Mailerlite
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example most of us, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, including adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their demands.
What is email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, such as moving a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. WordPress Mailerlite
The Price of MailerLite is one of the tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the industry. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the very few email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. WordPress Mailerlite
