Getresponse’s feature set is possibly one of the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does it provide all of the crucial stuff you’d expect from an email advertising platform – list hosting, templates, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned above, it’s recently been expanding the attribute set to the point where it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style advertising and marketing platform.
The inquiry is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of not – let us drill down into the crucial qualities to find out.
Up until very recently Getresponse service was amongst the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone service alongside live chat support, email support and assorted online tutorials / tools.

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will usually create far more leads if, rather than simply directing individuals to some (cluttered!) Site, they point users to appealing’squeeze pages’ containing clear info and a clean, well-designed data capture type.
Getresponse offers something very beneficial in this respect that most of its rivals do not: a landing page founder (and one that’s mobile-friendly to boot).

However, unless you are on a Getresponse’Guru’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ program, the Getresponse landing page performance is fairly limited: you can just create 1 landing page, that could simply be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Additionally, and above all, you can’t use the landing page A/B testing functionality on the least expensive Getresponse plan (whereby the system indicates a sample of your users different variations of your landing page, computes conversion rates, and ultimately rolls out the best performing landing page mechanically ).
If you are serious about landing pages – plus they are certainly a helpful attribute – then it is definitely worth looking at among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an extra $15 per month, but very frustratingly, although the add-on permits you to show an unlimited amount of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it does not include A/B testing.
Therefore, if I had been considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I’d just go for one of the more expensive plans (which I suppose is what Getresponse want one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its rivals for quite some time with its responsive email layout functionality, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when an individual is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this today, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is better than most similar products as soon as it comes to displaying a reactive record of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’mobile preview’ button for a quick snapshot of what your email resembles on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating facets of using many well-known CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back into your email marketing tool in order to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export info from the email marketing tool in your CRM to add leads to it).
So when I watched Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM feature in their plans I had been intrigued – this could potentially do away with all that info exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in one place.
Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool as you could only use it in order to perform rather basic tasks: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and track activity (mails, telephone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their game somewhat on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline phase.
An example of how you could use this operation would be as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a specific stage on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your website that they completed a form ;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a couple of days later;
and dependent on the actions they took with regard to that email (clicking on a certain link ) you can automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them into a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and I can’t think of any email marketing product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of performance you normally must look at committed — and more costly — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it is not all good news about the CRM front there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Additional CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or client; doing this keeps a list of this communication from the contact’s history. There is now no way of doing so with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one emails to prospects or clients.
And oddly, when you click a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can’t see their contact activity — i.e., the actions they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications that you’ve sent to your leads are not displayed. To observe this, you have to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, hunt for your contact in the contacts section and then click on their details. But guess what? Doing so doesn’t display their history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts into a pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, include a deal and search your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to put in a bargain right to a pipeline and then enter the contact details of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it’s a new feature and the things it can do on the automation aspect is remarkable. I am optimistic that this feature gets developed over time since done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is extremely attractive.

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters sent that successfully hit inboxes – is always a very important point to look at when selecting an email marketing tool.
Not all email marketing suppliers are that forthright in their deliverability rates; but Getresponse seems reasonably open about that, with this to say about it in their own site:

With a double opt-in procedure, the individual signing up to your record is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he have to click before being subscribed.
The most important advantage of one opt-in process is that it makes it very easy for users to sign up for your mailing list; additionally, it generally increases conversion speed and so the number of readers on your record. Additionally, no controllers are provided by Getresponse to switch forms on or off on specific devices or pages of your site. Overall, Getresponse is really simple to use. It’s certainly easy enough to perform all of the fundamentals: import contacts, create campaigns, set up autoresponders and check numbers and the interface is really clean and intuitive.

One place I feel that could be significantly better from a user-friendliness point of view is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to make blocks of articles and transfer them about an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly user friendly to use and may lead to accidental deletion of material, or placement of it at the incorrect part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a bit, it will make for a useful instrument – it is just that the implementation of it might be rather better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM instrument might be far better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse provides is fully operational and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and today I’m getting charged for a product I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is that it restricts the amount of readers you can send to to 1000. It would be useful if this could be increased a bit, as it might help potential users try out the tool in more’real-world’ situations.

It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing rings, meaning that depending on the size of your list, it might occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 recording database will be exactly the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally cheaper, if much less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be Conscious of on the pricing front:
Some competing providers — especially Mailchimp – provide completely free accounts for users with a small number of documents (but these don’t supply the entire range of features that you get on a paid program ).
As stated before, if you’re prepared to pay upfront for 1 or two years, you can avail of significant discounts the other competitors do not yet supply.

Getresponse represents among the more cost-effective tactics to host and speak with an email .
It is also among the most interesting products of its kind – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. Some developments to Getresponse do need to be made however, especially where the email programmer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is more fiddly and less responsive than it ought to be. The drag and drop interface for designing mails may be a little bit on the side.
The data capture forms provided are not responsive and you can’t control when and where they’re displayed on your website.
