Intro What Is Marketing Email
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? What Is Marketing Email
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? What Is Marketing Email
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. What Is Marketing Email
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, for example the majority people, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see precisely how your readers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available data more than enough to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. What Is Marketing Email
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. What Is Marketing Email
