So far so good with Getresponse, but in regards to templates, Getresponse arguably falls down a little.
Regrettably, the templates provided from the box look a bit dated; they are not as attractive as those provided by Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor (and I slightly prefer Aweber’s offering here too).
On the other hand, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can change fonts, layouts and imagery easily enough with all the controls supplied; and of course there’s nothing to prevent you simply designing your HTML email template and importing the code for this.
Furthermore, there are a lot of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they are presented in easy-to-understand classes, so it is generally pretty simple to find a good starting point to get a template and then edit it before you’re delighted with the plan.
If you are really unhappy with the templates offered by Getresponse, there’s also the option of buying a template from a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is that the range of RSS-to-email software options aren’t very extensive (only 11 templates are provided – well short of their 700+ accessible for regular newsletters!) And some of them played a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Online advertising campaigns which use landing pages will usually create far more leads if, instead of simply directing individuals to some (cluttered!) Site, they tip users to attractive’squeeze pages’ containing clear info and a clean, well-designed data capture form.
Getresponse offers something quite useful in this regard that most of its rivals don’t: a landing page founder (and one that is mobile-friendly to boot).

However, unless you are on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ plan, the Getresponse landing page functionality is fairly limited: you can just produce 1 landing page, which could simply be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Additionally, and above all, you can’t use the landing page A/B testing performance on the least expensive Getresponse plan (whereby the machine shows a sample of your customers different variations of your landing page, computes conversion rates, and ultimately rolls out the top performing landing page automatically).
If you’re serious about landing pages – and they’re certainly a helpful feature – then it’s definitely worth considering one of the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You may purchase the Landing Pages feature as an add-on to get an extra $15 per month, but quite frustratingly, although the add-on permits you to show an infinite number of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive programs (which I guess is what Getresponse want you to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its rivals for quite some time with its responsive email design functionality, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when a user is reading it on a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this today, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than many similar goods as soon as it comes to displaying a reactive record of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’cellphone preview’ button to get an instant snapshot of your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back into your email marketing instrument as a way to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export info from the email marketing tool in your CRM to add prospects to it).

The CRM is currently integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users into a CRM pipeline according to their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders based on the accession of a new contact into a pipeline phase.
An example of how to use this operation is as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a specific point on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your site they finished a form ;
you can then send a automated email tailored to this pipeline stage a couple of days later;

But, it is not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are a few big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM attribute collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Additional CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or client; doing this keeps a record of the communication from the contact’s history. There is currently no method of doing this together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to leads or clients.
And strangely, if you click on a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can not see their contact activity — i.e., the actions they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you’ve delivered to your prospects aren’t displayed. To see this, you have to go out of the CRM part of Getresponse, hunt for your contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing this doesn’t exhibit their deal history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Finally, adding contacts into a pipeline stage is tough. You have to add contacts to a list , then go to the CRM pipeline, include a deal and search your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a bargain right to a pipeline and then enter the contact information of your lead or customer at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it’s a new attribute and the stuff it could do on the automation side is remarkable. I am optimistic that this attribute becomes developed over time since done right, it is possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to host webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of having your email database and your webinar tool under the same roof is extremely appealing.
The pricing is also very competitive too compared to established webinar solutions. By way of example, one of the leading webinar services, Gotowebinar, charges $199 per month to host webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can actually do exactly the same (and a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (as long as your listing size is under 25,000).
With regard to attendee limitations, the Getresponse’Pro’ program permits you to host a webinar with up to 100 participants; the’Max’ plan’s cap is 500.

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters delivered that successfully hit inboxes – is obviously an important thing to check at when selecting an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing providers are that forthright in their deliverability rates; but Getresponse seems reasonably open about this, with this to say about it on their own site:
At GetResponse we’re frequently asked about the quality of our deliverability speed. Because deliverability is dependent upon a number of factors, including the content of your messages, the deliverability rate could vary for each mailing. For all our clients jointly, however, we are pleased to say our general deliverability rate currently stands at 99%.
Obviously you are going to have to choose the organization’s word for this, but assuming it’s accurate, it is a good speed and inspires confidence that the vast majority of emails you send using Getresponse will reach their receivers.
What’s more, Getresponse really provides you the deliverability rate of each message on your email analytics – this is something I haven’t struck on rival goods’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I really do need to pull Getresponse up on something relating to deliverability however: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it is a good idea to use a system named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM using Getresponse – but just on the costlier Getresponse’Max’ programs.
Though I have not struck any deliverability problems utilizing the cheaper plans, competing goods don’t force you to invest in a more expensive strategy to avail of the feature — it would be useful to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two methods you can use to add subscribers to a mailing list: using a’only opt-in’ or even a’double click’ process.
If you use use a single opt-in process, the individual signing up to your mailing list is added to your mailing list the minute they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in procedure, the person registering to your record is sent an email containing a confirmation link that s/he have to click before being subscribed.
The most important benefit of one sampling procedure is that it makes it really easy for users to subscribe to a mailing list; it also generally increases conversion speed and therefore the number of readers on your record. A double opt-in procedure is best for verifying that the people subscribing to your list are using real email addresses and leads to cleaner data and more precise stats (because open rates etc. ) are calculated according to a list containing just email addresses).

Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to create blocks of content and transfer them about an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of material, or placement of it at the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you can get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it will result in a useful instrument – it’s only that the implementation of it might be somewhat better.
Also, as described above, the CRM instrument might be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial that Getresponse provides is fully functional and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I am getting charged for a commodity that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it limits the amount of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if that could be increased a bit, as it would help potential users try the tool out in more’real-world’ scenarios.

Pricing Vs Competitors
Provided that you’re pleased to use one of those entry-level’Email’ programs, the pay-per-month Getresponse plans are on the whole cheaper than those supplied by many of its key competitors, particularly if you have a reasonably high number of email addresses on your database.

The sole well-known service I can think of that comes in significantly more affordable is Mad Mimi, which charges $42 per month to sponsor up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the functionality offered by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as extensive as Getresponse’s or indeed another products mentioned previously ).
Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that depending on the size of your listing, it may sometimes be a slightly cheaper alternative than Getresponse.
At the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can host a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database is exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally more affordable, if less functional offering for $12 per month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing front:
Some competing suppliers — especially Mailchimp – offer free account for users with a few documents (but these don’t supply the full range of features that you get on a paid plan).
As stated earlier, if you’re prepared to pay upfront for 1 or two years, you can avail of significant discounts the other competitors don’t yet supply.

Getresponse represents one of the more cost-effective ways to host and communicate with an email .
It’s also among the most interesting products of its kind – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. It’s hard to consider any rival product that offers this’all round’ proposal, and it is what proceeds to persuade us to utilize it for Style Factory’s email marketing.
Some developments to Getresponse do need to be made nonetheless, especially where the email designer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is more fiddly and not as responsive than it ought to be. A lot of improvements can be made to the data capture forms also, especially for consumers wanting to display them on mobile devices.
