Recently however, Getresponse’s feature set has evolved quite a bit, to the point at which it is becoming more of an’all-in-one’ marketing solution.
In addition to email marketing, it also provides webinar hosting, landing pages, and a few CRM (client relationship management) performance.
We are going to discuss all these features in depth below, but first, let us look in pricing.
Getresponse’s attribute set is arguably among the most comprehensive on the market.
Not only does this provide all the key stuff you’d expect from an email advertising platform – record hosting, templates, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned above, it’s been expanding the feature set to the point where it is morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The inquiry is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let us drill down into the crucial qualities to find out.
Up until quite recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the firm offered phone service together with live chat support, email service and various online tutorials / tools.
Regrettably, the phone support has been discontinued. Instead you’ll have to use live chat (24/7) or email support. To be fair, most similar e-marketing platform suppliers only offer both of these channels – if telephone service is a deal-breaker for you you may want to consider Aweber, which nonetheless supplies it (you can read our Aweber review ).
In terms of the quality of Getresponse support, I’ve not had to use it very often (a fantastic thing) but when I’ve I have discovered it for a small mixed bag (less of a fantastic thing). Some of the live chat service I have received was outstanding, and I have not needed to wait too much time to talk to an agent; the email service .

Getresponse provides some very comprehensive reporting and analytics options. You get all the Fundamentals of course – open speed, click-through, unsubscribe rates and so forth – but in addition to that you will find some very nifty features Which Are worth a Specific mention, specifically:

Mailchimp and Aweber offer some comparable reporting functionality (especially around sales tracking) but Getresponse’s reporting tool is decidedly one of most featured out there (it surely trounces the stats choices provided by Mad Mimi and Campaign Monitor).
So far so good with Getresponse, but in regards to templates, Getresponse arguably drops down a little.
Unfortunately, the templates supplied from the box seem a bit dated; they are not as attractive as the ones provided by Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor (and I marginally prefer Aweber’s offering here also ).
On the other hand, the templates are very tweakable – you can alter fonts, layouts and imagery easily enough using the controls supplied; and naturally there is nothing to stop you designing your HTML email template and importing the code for this.
Furthermore, you will find tons of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they are presented in easy-to-understand categories, so it’s generally pretty straightforward to locate a good beginning point to get a template and edit it before you’re happy with the design.
If you’re really not pleased with the templates provided by Getresponse, there is also the choice of purchasing a template from a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is that the assortment of RSS-to-email applications options are not very extensive (only 11 templates are supplied – well short of their 700+ accessible for regular newsletters!) And some of them played up a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will usually create far more leads in the event, instead of simply directing individuals to a (cluttered!) Website, they point users to appealing’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a clean, well-designed data capture type.

Additionally, and very importantly, you can not use the landing page A/B testing functionality on the least expensive Getresponse program (whereby the machine indicates a sample of your users different variations of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and finally rolls out the best performing landing page automatically).
If you are serious about landing pages – plus they are certainly a helpful feature – then it’s definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on to get an extra $15 per month, however quite frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to show an infinite number of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I wouldn’t bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I’d just go for a few of the pricier programs (which I guess is what Getresponse want one to do!) .
Getresponse was before its rivals for quite a while with its responsive email design performance, which automatically corrects your e-newsletter’s template so that when a user is reading it on a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than many similar products when it comes to displaying a reactive preview of your e-newsletter – you just hit on a’mobile preview’ button for an instant snapshot of what your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating aspects of utilizing many famous CRM tools is that the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool in order to do mailouts (or the necessity to export data from the email marketing tool into your CRM to add leads to it).
So when I watched Getresponse lately introducing a new CRM feature into their plans I was intrigued – this could potentially eliminate all that info exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it in order to perform rather basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and track activity (mails, phone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users into a CRM pipeline according to their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders based on the accession of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how to use this operation would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular stage on a sales pipeline depending on the page of your site that they finished a form on;
you can then send a automated email tailored to this pipeline period a couple of days later;
and based on the action they took with regard to this email (clicking on a particular link etc) you could automatically move them onto another phase of the pipeline and invite invite them to a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can not think of any similar email advertising product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of functionality you normally must appear at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity tracking. Additional CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to some lead or client; doing this keeps a list of this communication from the contact’s history. There is now no way of doing so with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to leads or customers.
And strangely, when you click on a contact in a bargain pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications which you have sent to your prospects aren’t displayed. To observe this, you need to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, hunt for your own contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not exhibit their history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts into a pipeline stage is tough. You have to add contacts to a list first, then go to the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to put in a bargain right to a pipeline and then enter the contact details of your lead or client at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. But that said, it’s a new feature and the things it can perform on the automation aspect is impressive. I’m optimistic that this attribute gets developed over time because done right, it is possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to host webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of having your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the exact same roof is very attractive.
The pricing is also very competitive too compared to based webinar solutions. Ultimately webinar performance is potentially an extremely helpful feature to have sitting in your e-marketing arsenal and its inclusion as a feature gives Getresponse a very significant edge over its key competitors, especially when you consider that you can link it in using a built in CRM tool (more about that in a minute ). The email deliverability rate – the proportion of e-newsletters sent that successfully hit inboxes – is always an important thing to check at when selecting an email marketing instrument.
Not all email advertising suppliers are that forthright about their deliverability rates; but Getresponse seems reasonably open about this, with this to say about it in their own site:
At GetResponse we are often asked about the quality of our deliverability rate. Because deliverability depends on many factors, including the content of your messages, the deliverability rate may vary for every mailing. For all our clients collectively, however, we are pleased to say our overall deliverability rate now stands at 99%.
Clearly you are going to need to choose the company’s term for this, but assuming it is true, it is a good speed and inspires confidence that the vast majority of emails that you send using Getresponse will reach their intended recipients.
What’s more, Getresponse really provides you the deliverability rate of every message on your email analytics – this is something I haven’t encountered on competing products’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I do need to pull Getresponse up on something relating to deliverability nevertheless: to ensure a high deliverability speed, it’s a good idea to use a platform named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM with Getresponse – but just on the costlier Getresponse’Max’ programs.
Though I have not struck any deliverability problems using the cheaper plans, competing goods do not force you to invest in a more expensive plan to avail of the feature — it would be good to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two approaches you can employ to add subscribers to a mailing list: using a’only opt-in’ or a’double click’ process.
If you use use a single opt-in process, the person signing up to your own mailing list is added to a mailing list the moment they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in process, the person signing up to your list is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he must click before being subscribed.
The most important benefit of a single opt-in process is that it makes it very easy for users to subscribe to a mailing list; it also generally increases conversion rate and so the number of subscribers on your record. A dual opt-in process is best for verifying the people subscribing to a list are using actual email addresses and leads to cleaner information and more precise stats (because open rates etc. are calculated based on a list containing only email addresses).
The fantastic news here is that Getresponse permits you to make use of either opt-in approach – this isn’t the case with all competing goods. Thus a thumbs up for Getresponse to be flexible on this.
You are probably thinking that this sounds quite fine — but to tell the truth, I think there is a lot of room for advancement with regard to Getresponse form templates.
For a start, they’re not responsive (i.e.they won’t resize themselves automatically to match the device they are being watched on).
Additionally, no controllers are provided by Getresponse to switch forms off or on on specific devices or individual pages of your website. On the whole, Getresponse is pretty simple to use. It’s certainly easy enough to perform all the fundamentals: import contacts, create campaigns, setup autoresponders and check numbers and the interface is pretty clean and intuitive.
With regards to how it stacks up against its competitors in this regard, I’d argue that Campaign Monitor is a tiny bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp includes a slicker user interface (though one that makes locating certain performance a bit tricky at times).
1 place I think that could be significantly better in the user-friendliness point of view is that the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible way to create blocks of content and transfer them about an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of content, or positioning of it in the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you can get your head around it, and practice using it a little bit, it will make for a useful tool – it’s only that the implementation of it might be somewhat better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM tool could be far better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day free trial which Getresponse provides is fully operational and the free trial isn’t contingent upon providing credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I am getting charged for a product I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it restricts the amount of subscribers you can send to to 1000. It would be useful if this could be raised a little, as it might help potential users try out the tool in more’real world’ scenarios.

There are a number of differences between the’Email’,’Guru’ and’Max’ plans but for me the main ones are:

Webinars – this performance is not available whatsoever on the’Email’ plan and the amount of webinar attendees is capped for the’Guru’ and’Max’ plans at 100, 500 respectively (it is uncertain what the limit is about the’Enterprise’ program ).
Users – you can have just one user account on the’Email’ plan; by contrast you get 3 on’Pro’, 5 on’Max’ and 10 on’Enterprise’.
Pricing Vs Competitors
Provided that you’re happy to use one of the entry-level’Email’ plans, the pay-per-month Getresponse programs are on the whole cheaper than those provided by many of its key competitors, particularly if you’ve got a reasonably large number of email addresses onto your database.
For instance, in case you have a mailing list containing between 9,000 and 10,000 records that you want to send an unlimited number of mails per month to, you might find that hosting it using Getresponse costs $65 per month.

$84 per month cheaper than Campaign Monitor*
Decision Campaign Monitor’s pricing structure depends not only the number of email addresses in your database but on how many emails you send a month too. If you’re happy to limit the number of emails delivered via Campaign Monitor (from the example above, to 50k emails), you can expect to pay a monthly charge of $89, still considerably higher than Getresponse’s.
The only well-known service I could think of that comes in considerably more affordable is Mad Mimi, which charges $42 per month to sponsor up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the performance offered by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as broad as Getresponse’s or really another products mentioned previously ).
Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers thinner pricing rings, meaning that based on how big your listing, it may occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can host a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 record database will be exactly the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally cheaper, if less operational offering for $12 per month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing front:
Some competing providers — especially Mailchimp – offer free account for users that have a few records (but these don’t offer the full range of features that you get on a paid program ).
As mentioned earlier, if you are prepared to pay upfront for 1 or 2 years, you can avail of substantial discounts that the other competitors do not yet supply.
So the most important thing is that Getresponse is fairly competitive in the pricing department. But what about attributes? Unlimited Emails Email Marketing Software
Getresponse represents among the more cost-effective tactics to host and communicate using an email .
It’s also among the most interesting products of its type – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. It’s difficult to think of any rival product that offers this’all around’ proposal, and it is what proceeds to convince us to use it to Style Factory’s email advertising.
Some improvements to Getresponse do need to be made nonetheless, especially where the email programmer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is more fiddly and not as responsive than it should be. A good deal of improvements could be made into the data capture types also, particularly for consumers wanting to display them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader feedback, there are improvements which could be made to the service offering.
Overall though I rate Getresponse very tremendously – you receive substantial bang for your buck with this item.

So long as you’re pleased to use an’Email’ program, Getresponse is more affordable than most of its key competitors (in certain cases, substantially so) whilst offering as much, or even more performance as them.
The discounts you get when paying upfront for a couple of decades of service are extremely generous – you will be hard pushed to find comparable reductions in prices from key opponents.
Its webinar functionality is a USP – something which isn’t provided by any similar products.
Its reporting and comprehensive split testing features are powerful.
Getresponse is clear regarding deliverability rates, publishing characters on its website and supplying deliverability statistics for individual e-newsletters that you send.
It provides an extremely flexible approach to information segmentation – more flexible than many competing products.
It permits you to add subscribers to a mailing list on either a single-opt in and a dual opt-in basis.
It transmits emails that are reactive and allows you to preview smartphone variations of your e-newsletters very easily.
It includes a helpful landing page founder – but keep in mind that you need to be on a more expensive strategy to get the fully functional version of this.
You are able to test all of its features free for 30 days without the need to enter credit card details.
Disadvantages of Getresponse
The drag and drop interface for designing mails can be a little bit on the fiddly side.
The information capture forms provided are not responsive and you can’t control when and in which they are displayed on your site.
CRM functionality needs to be improved substantially before it could be thought of as a substitute for a standalone CRM merchandise.
There’s a limited selection of RSS-to-HTML e-newsletter templates supplied.
You can only use’web-safe’ fonts from e-newsletters, which may make the templates look marginally less slick than those supplied by competing goods.
The pricing arrangement is a bit perplexing, with users having to cover something of a premium to access the landing page creator tool.
The free trial limits the number of readers you can send messages to to 1000.
The landing page add-on doesn’t allow you to perform A/B tests, meaning that so as to gain this functionality you are forced to use a more expensive program than you might like.
DKIM authentication is only on the more expensive’Max’ plans.
