If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Totalsend
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, company size, record size and even the type of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Totalsend
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from fresh Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Totalsend
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see precisely how your readers interacted with your mails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Totalsend
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the comments. Totalsend
