Background Selligent Email Marketing

MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

So now, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, business size, record size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Selligent Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers collectively according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Selligent Email Marketing
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example most people, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, though I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Selligent Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is among the tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the industry. Plus, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few email advertising tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, which is no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Selligent Email Marketing
