If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Resultsmail
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, record size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, most of these will follow The same step-by-step procedure of a normal effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Resultsmail
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Resultsmail
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the form style, fields, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Resultsmail
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Resultsmail
