Intro Newsletter Marketing Software
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Newsletter Marketing Software
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical big players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and even the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a good fit for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Newsletter Marketing Software
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically added or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Newsletter Marketing Software
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Decent pair of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the form style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see precisely how your readers interacted with your mails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available statistics more than enough to meet their demands.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Newsletter Marketing Software
The cost of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Newsletter Marketing Software
