Intro Newsletter Marketing Services
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Newsletter Marketing Services
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the identical large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to find out whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you’re a fantastic match for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include different Types of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your groups or segments.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Newsletter Marketing Services
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Rules, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we will get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Newsletter Marketing Services
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted with your mails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so you can get an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Newsletter Marketing Services
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Price of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
