Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the type of content you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and determine whether you are a fantastic fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Marketingsherpa Email Marketing Benchmark Report
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Marketingsherpa Email Marketing Benchmark Report
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup Procedure is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see how your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their demands.
What is email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means you can find an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Marketingsherpa Email Marketing Benchmark Report
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools largest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at around half of the Cost of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
