When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Mailrelay
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and also the type of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the features, but you won’t be able to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailrelay
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even blend Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we will get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Mailrelay
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything from the form style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this setup Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your mails compared to another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Mailrelay
The Price of MailerLite is among the tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailrelay
