Introduction Mailing Services
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Mailing Services
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email advertising has been Dominated by the same big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, business size, record size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailing Services
Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email advertising software now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — which we will get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together based on a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Mailing Services
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great base to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Considering paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with all the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Mailing Services
The Price of MailerLite is one of the tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options available on the market. Additionally, if you are ready to pay annually, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few email marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailing Services
