Introduction Mailerlite Workflow
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Mailerlite Workflow
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online businesses today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this review, I will be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, most of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include different Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to choose your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Workflow
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get to in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Workflow
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example the majority of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Decent pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can Select the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted with your emails in relation to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What is email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you’ll likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just isn’t accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Mailerlite Workflow
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly among the tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the few email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
