When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Mailerlite Welcome Email
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this short article, I’ll be ripping MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, business size, record size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include different Kinds of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Welcome Email
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, in addition to an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here since I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Welcome Email
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your mails in relation to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an concept about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you will probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Welcome Email
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt one of those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your mails using this program, it is still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Price of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the industry. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few marketing tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailerlite Welcome Email
