Background Mailerlite Variables
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Mailerlite Variables
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email marketing providers these days, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, business size, record size and even the type of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Variables
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email marketing software now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Rules, as well as another rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Variables
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the same job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on how Subscribers interact with the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Variables
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it’s still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at approximately half the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the market. Additionally, if you are willing to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the email advertising tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailerlite Variables
