MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this short article, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and also the type of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.

– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.

– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.

The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.

Managing Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or removed accordingly.

Notice the way you can even blend Rules, in addition to another rule if the first doesn’t exist.

The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.

Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the form Things here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand that this is a feature you may use.

If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.

Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form kind.

Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.

Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What’s email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, which means you can find an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Opt In
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt one of the tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it’s still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at around half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those very few marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
