MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a good match for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few additional choices, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can choose your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Fonts
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own fields, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Things here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Fonts
If you are not impressed by what you have seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the identical job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything from the kind style, fields, background, name, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the near Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What’s email marketing with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email advertising software.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Fonts
The cost of MailerLite is one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
