Intro Mailerlite Disadvantages
If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what could you say? Mailerlite Disadvantages
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the previous decade. Which means they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So now, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see whether it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, what’s more, whether youshould consider making the switch.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you’re a good match for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include different Types of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows you To build segment-like rules , in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailerlite Disadvantages
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential facets of any email marketing program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also blend Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we will get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors together based on a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they are discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as name, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Things here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Mailerlite Disadvantages
If you’re not impressed by what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example the majority of us, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, as before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
This is really where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their needs.
What is email advertising with no dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite ought to not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Mailerlite Disadvantages
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it is still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half the Price of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those email marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in the last couple of years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
