Like most online industries today, email advertising has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So now, in this short article, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its own ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you’re a good match for their service.
(In other words, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)

Managing Your Subscribers

When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.

You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Stuff here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you may use.

If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then maybe The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great base to work from if, like the majority of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical job; accumulate an email address.

Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…

The great news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much faster than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
