Introduction Mailchimp Logo

MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and also the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good fit for their service.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
But while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the choice of altering the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you’d just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be carried to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Mailchimp Logo
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably among The most essential aspects of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a minute — and they don’t have any value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, company, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Things here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Mailchimp Logo
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, but it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than a few dedicated alternatives *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the form style, fields, background, title, enter fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, including adding extra fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a good foundation to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your subscribers interacted with your emails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much faster than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you’ll probably find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Mailchimp Logo
The Price of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it’s still an amazing option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of the competition generally, MailerLite is by far one of the cheapest options available on the market. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those email advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking about giving it a spin? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Mailchimp Logo
