Like most online businesses now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the previous decade. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to that domain so they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)

So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.

For this example, I will select the first template from the library.

You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to select your groups or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.

Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated accordingly.

Notice how you can even blend Principles, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and also the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.

Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the form Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from new Subscribers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to understand this is a feature you can use.

If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, but it will offer a great base to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that pure eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the identical task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.

Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:

Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
That is where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber development, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special coverage for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.

Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so you can get an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Readers interact with all the webpages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Letteron
The cost of MailerLite is one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at around half the Price of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
