If I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Knotice
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same big players for the last ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the marketplace, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, site, Industry, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a good match for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to readers using your site’s RSS feed.
Aside from a few added choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and select from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your groups or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is immediately, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Knotice
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your readers is arguably among The most important aspects of any email advertising software today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and will be automatically added or eliminated so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we will get into in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they are discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Knotice
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic base to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To visualize your copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, you will find Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive choice, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific coverage for that campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of this report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email marketing with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for moving Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s simply not as effective…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, so you can find an idea of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Knotice
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It ends up, at around half the Cost of the rivalry generally, MailerLite is by far among the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay yearly, you can also get a much greater discount.
In Reality, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. Knotice
