When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Kmailer
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it stands its own ground against the big boys…

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you’re a good match for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from damaging everybody’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, most of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Pick a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, but the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you can select your classes or sections.
The advanced tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Kmailer
Handling Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers Permit You to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, as well as another rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to future subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Customized field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you understand this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Direction and personalization features on point. Kmailer
If you’re not impressed by what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, but it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, for example most people, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on particular pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to some form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but surely not least, you Can assess how your form displays on cellular by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the setup process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into different areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see your subscribers interacted with your mails in relation to another.
Reports for automations will also be Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What is email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The good news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email advertising software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities in regards to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can Nevertheless Be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It is just much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation cube, so it’s possible to get an idea of what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much faster than what I’m utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 type of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, also I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the webpages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Kmailer
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half the Price of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the least expensive options on the market. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the very few marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Kmailer
