Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is that the assortment of RSS-to-email software options aren’t very extensive (just 11 templates are supplied – well short of the 700+ accessible for routine newsletters!) Getresponse offers something very beneficial in this regard that most of its competitors don’t: a landing page founder (and one that’s mobile-friendly to boot).

Therefore, if I had been considering the Getresponse landing page functionality, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I’d just go for a few of the pricier plans (which I guess is exactly what Getresponse would like one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its competitors for quite a while with its responsive email layout functionality, which automatically corrects your e-newsletter’s template so that if a user is reading it onto a mobile device, the design and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than many similar goods as soon as it comes to displaying a responsive preview of your e-newsletter – you just hit on a’mobile preview’ button to get an instant snapshot of what your email looks like on a smartphone (see image right).

Among the most frustrating facets of using many famous CRM tools is the need to export information to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export info from the email marketing tool in your CRM to include prospects to it).

An example of how you could use this functionality is as follows:

But, it’s not all fantastic news about the CRM front there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is email activity tracking. Other CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to some lead or customer; doing so keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There is now no method of doing this together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to prospects or customers.
And strangely, when you click on a contact in a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact activity — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications which you have delivered to your prospects are not displayed. To observe this, you need to go out of the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing this does not exhibit their history.
Task management is non-existent also: unlike dedicated CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts into your pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list , then go to the CRM pipeline, include a deal and search your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to put in a deal directly to a pipeline and input the contact details of your guide or client at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. However, it’s a new feature and the things it can perform on the automation aspect is impressive. I’m optimistic that this attribute gets developed over time since done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation tactic, the notion of having your email database and your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is extremely appealing.
The pricing is also very aggressive too by comparison to established webinar solutions. Furthermore, Getresponse actually provides you the deliverability rate of each message in your email analytics – that is something that I have not encountered on competing products’ metrics. A thumbs up for this.
I really do have to pull Getresponse up on one thing concerning deliverability however: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it’s advisable to use a system called DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM with Getresponse – but only on the more expensive Getresponse’Max’ plans.
Although I’ve not struck any deliverability problems using the cheaper plans, competing goods do not make you invest in a more expensive plan to avail of this feature — it would be good to see Getresponse being more generous here.
There are two methods you can use to add subscribers to a mailing list: having a’single opt-in’ or a’double opt-in’ process.
If you use use one opt-in process, the person registering to your own mailing list is added to your mailing list the moment they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in procedure, the individual signing up to your list is sent an email containing a confirmation link that s/he have to click before being subscribed.
The main benefit of one opt-in process is that it makes it very easy for users to sign up for your mailing list; additionally, it generally increases conversion rate and therefore the number of subscribers on your list. Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to create blocks of articles and move them around an e-newsletter, in practice it’s quite clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of material, or positioning of it in the incorrect part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it will make for a helpful tool – it’s only that the implementation of it might be somewhat better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM tool could be far better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals could be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial which Getresponse supplies is fully functional and the free trial is not contingent upon providing credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I am getting charged for a commodity I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it restricts the number of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if this could be increased a little, as it might help potential users try the tool out in more’real-world’ scenarios.

In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can host a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 record database is exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a slightly more affordable, if much less functional offering for $12 a month.

Some improvements to Getresponse do have to be made nonetheless, particularly where the email programmer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and not as responsive than it should be.
