The question is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of not – let’s drill down into the crucial features to learn.
Up until quite recently Getresponse service was amongst the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the firm offered phone service together with live chat support, email support and assorted online tutorials / tools.
Sadly, the phone support has now been discontinued. Instead you’ll need to use live chat (24/7) or email support. To be honest, most similar e-marketing platform providers only offer you these two channels – if phone service is a deal-breaker for you then you might wish to contemplate Aweber, which still provides it (you can read our Aweber review ).
Concerning the quality of Getresponse service, I’ve not had to use it very frequently (a fantastic thing) but once I have I have found it for a bit of a mixed bag (less of a good thing). Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that use landing pages will typically generate far more leads if, instead of simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Site, they tip users to attractive’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a tidy, well-designed data capture type.

Also, and very importantly, you can’t utilize the landing page A/B testing performance on the cheapest Getresponse program (where the machine shows a sample of your customers different versions of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and ultimately rolls out the best performing landing page automatically).
If you are serious about landing pages – and they’re certainly a useful feature – then it is definitely worth considering one of the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an additional $15 per month, but quite frustratingly, even though the add-on allows you to display an unlimited number of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I’d just go for one of the pricier plans (which I suppose is what Getresponse would like you to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its rivals for quite a while using its responsive email design performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when a user is reading it onto a mobile device, the design and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this today, and extend responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than most similar products as soon as it comes to displaying a reactive preview of your e-newsletter – you just hit a’cellphone preview’ button to get an instant snapshot of your email resembles on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is that the necessity to export data to CSV and back into your email marketing instrument in order to do mailouts (or the need to export info from the email marketing tool in your CRM to include leads to it).
When I watched Getresponse recently introducing a brand new CRM feature in their plans I was intrigued – this could possibly do away with all that data exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in 1 area.
Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it to perform quite basic jobs: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and track activity (mails, telephone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline according to their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders based on the accession of a new contact to a pipeline phase.
An example of how you could use this operation is as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your website that they finished a form on;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline period a couple of days later;
and dependent on the action they took with regard to this email (clicking on a certain link etc) you can automatically move them onto another stage of the pipeline and invite invite them to a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can not think of any similar email advertising product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of performance you normally must appear at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it’s not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are a few big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity monitoring. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to some lead or client; doing this keeps a record of the communication from the contact’s history. There’s now no method of doing so together with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to leads or customers.
And strangely, if you click a contact in a deal pipeline, you can not see their contact activity — i.e., the actions they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you have delivered to your leads aren’t displayed. To see this, you have to go from the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing this doesn’t display their history.
Task management is non-existent too: unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Finally, adding contacts to a pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list , then visit the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and search your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to put in a deal directly to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it is a new attribute and the stuff it could perform on the automation side is remarkable. I am hopeful that this attribute becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation tactic, the idea of having your email database and your webinar tool under precisely the exact same roof is very appealing.
The pricing is also very competitive also compared to based webinar solutions. The email deliverability rate – the proportion of e-newsletters sent that successfully hit inboxes – is obviously a very important point to look at when selecting an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing providers are that forthright about their deliverability rates; however, Getresponse seems pretty open about that, with this to say about it in their own website:
At GetResponse we’re often asked about the quality of the deliverability rate. Because deliverability is dependent upon many things, including the content of your messages, the deliverability rate may vary for every mailing. For all our clients collectively, however, we are pleased to say our general deliverability rate currently stands at 99%.
Obviously you’re going to have to take the company’s word for this, but assuming it’s true, it’s a fantastic rate and inspires confidence that the vast majority of emails you send using Getresponse will achieve their receivers.
Furthermore, Getresponse actually provides you the deliverability rate of each message in your email analytics – this is something I have not struck on rival goods’ metrics. A thumbs up for this.
I really do need to pull Getresponse up on one thing relating to deliverability nevertheless: to ensure a high deliverability speed, it is advisable to use a system named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM with Getresponse – but only on the more expensive Getresponse’Max’ plans.
Although I’ve not encountered any deliverability problems using the less costly plans, competing products do not force you to invest in a more expensive strategy to avail of the feature — it’d be good to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two methods you can employ to add subscribers to a mailing list: having a’only opt-in’ or a’double opt-in’ process.
If you utilize one opt-in process, the person registering to your own mailing list is added to your mailing list the minute they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
Using a double opt-in procedure, the person signing up to your record is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he must click before being subscribed.

1 place I think that might be significantly better from a user-friendliness point of view is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to create blocks of content and move them around an e-newsletter, in practice it is quite clunky to use and can lead to accidental deletion of content, or placement of it at the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a bit, it will make for a helpful instrument – it is just that the execution of it could be somewhat better.
Also, as described above, the CRM instrument could be far better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse provides is fully functional and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I’m getting charged for a product that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is the fact that it restricts the number of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be good if that could be raised a bit, as it would help prospective users try the tool out in more’real world’ scenarios.

Pricing Vs Competitors

The sole well-known service I could think of that comes in considerably more affordable is Mad Mimi, which costs $42 a month to sponsor up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the performance provided by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as extensive as Getresponse’s or really another products mentioned previously ).
Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing rings, meaning that based on how big your listing, it might sometimes be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 record database will be exactly the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a slightly cheaper, if much less operational offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing :
Some competing providers — notably Mailchimp – offer completely free accounts for users that have a few documents (but these do not supply the full assortment of features that you get on a paid plan).
As stated earlier, if you’re ready to pay upfront for 1 or two decades, you can avail of significant discounts that the other competitors don’t yet supply.
