MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing continues to be Dominated by the same large players for the previous ten years. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Site (or domain name).
This remains part of this approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is associated to this domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Website, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their services.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to use the software to create campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not be able to send anything before approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not ideal for getting started, it Does help stop malicious users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email marketing.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the choice of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, most of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your effort, you’ll be requested to Select a preferred editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and select from one of the pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Which makes customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Kinds of articles to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can choose your groups or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that is instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? How To Use Mailerlite
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified rules, and will be automatically inserted or removed so.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Principles, as well as another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together according to a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as name, business, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers together with Your custom field information in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Stuff here since I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field data from new Subscribers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Customized field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s fair to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on stage. How To Use Mailerlite
If you are not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, but it does offer a great base to work from if, like most people, you don’t have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the identical job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to display it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there’s more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form displays on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of the setup process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new choices under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will get the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. How To Use Mailerlite
The Price of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling things, and let’s face it, we all love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this program, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at around half the Cost of the rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options available on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you can also get an even greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few marketing tools The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
