Getresponse’s feature set is arguably one of the most comprehensive on the market.
Not only does this provide all of the key stuff you’d expect from an email marketing platform – record hosting, templates, autoresponders, analytics and so on, but as mentioned above, it has been expanding the attribute set to the point at which it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style advertising and marketing platform.
The inquiry is whether Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of not – let’s drill down into the crucial qualities to learn.
Up until quite recently Getresponse support was one of the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the company offered phone support together with live chat support, email service and assorted online tutorials / resources.
Regrettably, the phone support has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to have to use live chat (24/7) or email support. And some of them played up a bit for me when I tested them in Outlook (2010). Autoresponders are e-newsletters which are sent to your readers at intervals depending on you personally — you can set them up so that instantly after someone signals up to your mailing list, they receive a welcome message in the business; a week later they can get a discount offer for some of your products or services; 3 weeks later they could receive an invitation to accompany you on social media. Getresponse’s autoresponder functionality is an integral selling point – it provides one of the most comprehensive feature sets available.

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will usually generate far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Site, they point users to appealing’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a tidy, well-designed data capture type.

If you’re serious about landing pages – plus they are certainly a useful attribute – then it is definitely worth looking at one of the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an additional $15 a month, however quite frustratingly, even though the add-on permits you to show an unlimited number of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t include A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I wouldn’t bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive programs (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like one to do) .
Getresponse was before its rivals for quite some time using its responsive email layout functionality, which automatically corrects your e-newsletter’s template so that if a user is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this today, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is better than many similar products as soon as it comes to displaying a reactive preview of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’mobile preview’ button for a quick snapshot of what your email resembles on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating facets of utilizing many well-known CRM tools is that the need to export information to CSV and straight back into your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the need to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to include prospects to it).
So when I saw Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM feature into their plans I had been intrigued – this could possibly eliminate all that data exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in one area.

But recently Getresponse have upped their game a bit on this front. The CRM is currently integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users into a CRM pipeline based on their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders depending on the accession of a new contact into a pipeline phase.
An example of how you could use this functionality is as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a sales pipeline based on the page of your website that they finished a form ;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days afterwards;
and dependent on the actions they took in regards to this email (clicking on a particular link ) you could automatically move them on another phase of the pipeline and invite invite them to a webinar.
It’s very smart stuff, and I can’t think of any similar email advertising product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of performance you normally need to appear at committed — and more costly — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it’s not all fantastic news on the CRM front there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM attribute set.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity tracking. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to some lead or client; doing this keeps a record of this communication in the contact’s history. There’s now no way of doing so together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one emails to prospects or clients.
And strangely, if you click on a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can not see their contact action — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications that you have sent to your prospects aren’t displayed. To see this, you need to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, search for your contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not display their deal history.
Task management is non-existent also: unlike dedicated CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Finally, adding contacts to a pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list , then go to the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and search your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to put in a deal directly to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your lead or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it’s a new attribute and the things it can do on the automation side is remarkable. I’m hopeful that this feature gets developed over time because done right, it is potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to host webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are generally utilized as a lead-generation tactic, the notion of getting your email database and your webinar tool under the exact same roof is extremely appealing.
The pricing is also very competitive also by comparison to established webinar solutions. Furthermore, Getresponse really provides you the deliverability rate of every message in your email analytics – that is something I haven’t encountered on rival products’ metrics. A thumbs up for this.
I do need to pull Getresponse on one thing relating to deliverability however: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it is advisable to use a platform named DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM using Getresponse – but just on the costlier Getresponse’Max’ plans.
Though I’ve not encountered any deliverability problems using the less costly plans, competing goods don’t make you invest in a more expensive strategy to avail of the feature — it’d be useful to see Getresponse becoming more generous here.
There are two methods you can use to add subscribers to a mailing list: using a’single opt-in’ or even a’double opt-in’ process.
If you utilize a single opt-in procedure, the person signing up to your mailing list is added to a mailing list the minute they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
Using a double opt-in process, the person signing up to your record is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he must click before being subscribed.
The most important advantage of one sampling procedure is that it makes it really easy for users to sign up for your mailing list; additionally, it generally increases conversion speed and so the number of readers on your record. For a start, they’re not responsive (i.e.they won’t resize themselves automatically to suit the device they’re being viewed on).
Furthermore, no controllers are offered by Getresponse to change forms off or on on specific devices or pages of your site. If you can get your head around it, and practice using it a bit, it will result in a helpful tool – it is only that the execution of it might be rather better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM tool could be better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals could be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial that Getresponse supplies is completely functional and the free trial is not contingent upon providing credit card details.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I am getting charged for a commodity that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is the fact that it restricts the amount of readers it is possible to send to 1000. It would be useful if that could be increased a little, as it would help potential users try out the tool in more’real-world’ scenarios.

Pricing Vs Competitors
Provided that you are happy to use one of those entry-level’Email’ plans, the pay-per-month Getresponse programs are on the whole cheaper than those provided by many of its key competitors, particularly in case you have a fairly large number of email addresses onto your own database.
For instance, in case you have a mailing list comprising between 9,000 and 10,000 documents that you want to send an unlimited number of mails per month to, you might discover that hosting it with Getresponse prices $65 per month.

The sole well-known service I could think of that comes from significantly more affordable is Mad Mimi, which costs $42 a month to sponsor up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the functionality provided by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as broad as Getresponse’s or indeed another products mentioned previously ).
It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that depending on how big your listing, it may sometimes be a slightly cheaper alternative than Getresponse.
In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can sponsor a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 recording database will be the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally cheaper, if much less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing :
Some competing suppliers — notably Mailchimp – offer completely free account for users with a small number of records (but these don’t offer the entire range of features that you get on a paid plan).
As stated before, if you’re ready to pay upfront for 1 or 2 decades, you can avail of substantial discounts the other competitors do not yet provide.
So the most important thing is that Getresponse is fairly competitive in the pricing department. However, what about features? How To Get Response
Getresponse represents one of the more cost-effective ways to host and speak with an email .
It’s also among the most interesting products of its kind – because it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. It is difficult to consider any rival product that delivers this’all round’ proposal, and it is what continues to convince us to utilize it for Style Factory’s email advertising.
Some improvements to Getresponse do need to be made however, particularly where the email designer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and less responsive than it should be. A good deal of improvements can be made into the data capture types also, particularly for consumers wishing to display them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader opinions, there are improvements that could be made into the support offering.
All in all though I rate Getresponse very highly – you get considerable bang for your dollar with this product.

Disadvantages of Getresponse
The drag and drop interface for designing emails may be a little bit on the fiddly side.
