MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?

Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the type of content you plan to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed those Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you’re a good match for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you’re not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the same step-by-step procedure of a standard effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Pick a favorite editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor by default.
In the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the layouts are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of content to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your changes, just click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, then you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Honest Mail
Managing Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized campaigns Are Essential if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation rule — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in the event you’re uncertain:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they are optional.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as title, company, and country.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or can simply add these fields to your types which will only apply to future readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I will not go too much to the shape Things here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field information from new Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Honest Mail
If you’re not impressed with what you’ve seen so far, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like the majority of us, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all 3 kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite really Provides a Adequate pair of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, name, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To visualize your backup in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, including adding additional fields and setting a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me to a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can Select the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll find a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your readers interacted with your emails compared to another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available data more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What’s email marketing with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, then You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can not be said for every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, adding a Postpone, a conditional split, or an action, like moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within seven days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite ought to have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It is just much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, which means it’s possible to find an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s actually much quicker than what I’m used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, you will likely find that this downgrade in functionality.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the webpages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just is not available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you might want to skip this one. Honest Mail
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) to get as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Cost of the competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much greater discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of those few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent years, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the comments. Honest Mail
