Getresponse’s feature set is possibly among the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does this provide all the crucial stuff you would expect from an email advertising platform – record hosting, templates, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned previously, it has recently been expanding the attribute set to the point at which it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style advertising and marketing platform.
The inquiry is whether Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let’s drill down to the crucial features to learn.
Up until very recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the firm offered phone support alongside live chat support, email support and various online tutorials / tools.
Sadly, the phone support has been discontinued. Instead you are going to need to use live chat (24/7) or email service. Getresponse provides some very comprehensive reporting and analytics options. You get all the basics of course – open rate, click-through, unsubscribe rates and so on – but in addition to that there are some very nifty features that are worth a particular mention, namely:

Furthermore, you will find tons of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they are introduced in easy-to-understand categories, so it is generally pretty straightforward to locate a good starting point for a template and edit it before you are delighted with the design.
If you’re really not pleased with the templates provided by Getresponse, there’s also the option of purchasing a template by a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is the assortment of RSS-to-email software options aren’t so extensive (only 11 templates are provided – well short of the 700+ accessible for routine newsletters!) And a few of them played a bit for me when I tested them (2010). This kind of performance goes way beyond what has traditionally been available from autoresponders, and lets you make a user travel which may be customised to the nth level.

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that use landing pages will usually generate far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing individuals to a (cluttered!) Website, they tip users to appealing’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a tidy, well-designed data capture form.

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating aspects of utilizing many well-known CRM tools is the need to export information to CSV and back to your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the need to export data from the email marketing tool into your CRM to add prospects to it).
When I watched Getresponse lately introducing a new CRM attribute in their plans I was intrigued – this could possibly do away with all that data exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in 1 place.

You can add a contact to a particular point on a sales pipeline depending on the page of your site that they completed a form on;
you could then send them a automated email tailored to this pipeline period a few days afterwards;
and dependent on the action they took in regards to that email (clicking on a certain link etc) you could automatically move them onto another phase of the pipeline and automatically invite them into a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can not think of any email advertising product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of performance you normally need to look at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all good news on the CRM front — there are a few big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM attribute collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity tracking. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or client; doing this keeps a record of the communication from the contact’s history. There’s currently no method of doing so together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to prospects or clients.
And strangely, if you click a contact in a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the actions they have taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you’ve sent to your prospects aren’t displayed. To see this, you have to go out of the CRM part of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and then click on their details. But guess what? Doing this does not display their deal history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike dedicated CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Finally, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You have to add contacts to a list first, then go to the CRM pipeline, include a bargain and search your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to put in a deal right to a pipeline and enter the contact information of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. But that said, it is a new feature and the stuff it could perform on the automation aspect is impressive. I’m hopeful that this feature becomes developed over time since done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to host webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of getting your email database and your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is very attractive.
The pricing is also very competitive too compared to based webinar solutions. For example, one of the primary webinar services, Gotowebinar, charges $199 per month to host webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can actually do the same (and a great deal more) with Getresponse for $165 (so long as your listing size is under 25,000).

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters delivered that successfully reach inboxes – is obviously a very important thing to check at when selecting an email marketing tool.
Not all email advertising suppliers are that forthright about their deliverability rates; however, Getresponse seems reasonably open about this, with this to say about it on their own site:

Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide a very flexible way to create blocks of articles and transfer them around an e-newsletter, in practice it is quite user friendly to use and may cause accidental deletion of material, or positioning of it at the wrong part of the e-newsletter.
If you can get your head around it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a helpful tool – it’s only that the execution of it could be rather better.
Additionally, as explained above, the CRM tool might be better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day free trial which Getresponse provides is completely operational and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I am getting charged for a product I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is that it limits the amount of readers it is possible to send to to 1000. It would be useful if that could be increased a little, as it might help prospective users try the tool out in more’real world’ scenarios.

Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers thinner pricing bands, meaning that based on the size of your listing, it may sometimes be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can host a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database will be the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally more affordable, if less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing :
Some competing suppliers — notably Mailchimp – provide completely free accounts for users with a small number of documents (but these do not offer the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid program ).
As stated before, if you’re prepared to pay upfront for 1 or 2 years, you can avail of significant discounts that the other competitors do not yet provide.
