Lately however, Getresponse’s feature set has developed quite a bit, to the point at which it’s getting more of an’all-in-one’ marketing alternative.
In addition to email advertising, it also provides webinar hosting, landing pages, and some CRM (customer relationship management) functionality.
We are going to discuss all these features in depth below, but first, let’s look in pricing.
Getresponse’s attribute set is arguably among the most comprehensive on the market.
Not only does this provide all the key stuff you’d expect from an email advertising platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so on, but as mentioned above, it has been expanding the feature set to the point at which it is morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The inquiry is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let’s drill down into the key features to learn.
Up until very recently Getresponse support was amongst the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the company offered phone support alongside live chat support, email service and assorted online tutorials / resources.
Regrettably, the phone service has now been discontinued. Instead you’ll have to use live chat (24/7) or email service. Concerning the quality of Getresponse service, I’ve not had to use it quite often (a fantastic thing) but when I have I have found it to be a bit of a mixed bag (less of a fantastic thing). Some of the live chat support I’ve received was excellent, and I have not had to wait too long to talk to an agent; the email support less so.
Some of the comments I have from our readers will indicate that there do need to be improvements made concerning the quality of service Getresponse offer. As with a number of these kinds of companies, I expect it boils down to who you get daily. Getresponse White Label

Thus far so good with Getresponse, but in regards to templates, Getresponse arguably drops down a bit.
Regrettably, the templates supplied out of the box seem a bit dated; they are not as attractive as those provided by Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor (and I slightly prefer Aweber’s offering here too).
On the plus side, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can change fonts, designs and vision easily enough using the controls provided; and of course there’s nothing to stop you simply designing your own HTML email template and importing the code for it.
Additionally, there are a lot of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they’re presented in easy-to-understand classes, therefore it is generally pretty simple to locate a good beginning point for a template and then edit it until you’re delighted with the plan.
If you are really unhappy with the templates offered by Getresponse, there’s also the choice of buying a template from a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is that the range of RSS-to-email software options are not very extensive (just 11 templates are provided – well short of the 700+ available for regular newsletters!) Getresponse’s autoresponder functionality is a key selling point – it provides one of the most comprehensive feature sets available.

Lately Getresponse launched a new version of the new autoresponder functionality, known as’Marketing Automation.’
This allows you to make automation workflows with a drag and drop builder – you essentially install an’automation flowchart’ that instructs Getresponse what to do when a user opens a specific offer, clicks on a certain link etc..
This kind of performance goes way beyond what has traditionally been on offer from autoresponders, and allows you to create a user travel that may be customised to the nth degree.

It is important to notice, however, these more advanced marketing automation features are only available to the pricier plans – the’Pro’ program and upward. Getresponse White Label
Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will usually generate far more leads if, instead of simply directing individuals to a (cluttered!) Site, they tip users to appealing’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a clean, well-designed data capture type.

If you’re serious about landing pages – plus they’re unquestionably a helpful feature – then it is definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can purchase the Landing Pages feature as an add-on to get an additional $15 per month, but very frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to display an infinite number of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t include A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I would just go for one of the more expensive programs (which I suppose is what Getresponse would like one to do!) .
Getresponse was before its competitors for quite some time using its responsive email layout performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when an individual is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this today, and extend responsive email templates, but Getresponse is better than many similar goods when it comes to displaying a reactive preview of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’mobile preview’ button to get a quick snapshot of your email resembles on a smartphone (see image right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating facets of using many well-known CRM tools is that the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool in order to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to include leads to it).
So when I watched Getresponse recently introducing a brand new CRM feature in their plans I had been intrigued – that could potentially eliminate all that info exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in 1 place.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it to carry out quite basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and monitor activity (emails, telephone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their video game somewhat on this particular front. The CRM is currently integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users to a CRM pipeline according to their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders depending on the accession of a new contact into a pipeline stage.
An example of how to use this functionality is as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a specific stage on a sales pipeline based on the page of your website they completed a form on;
you can then send a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days later;
and based on the action they took in regards to this email (clicking on a particular link ) you could automatically move them onto another phase of the pipeline and automatically invite them into a webinar.
It is very clever stuff, and I can’t think of any email marketing product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of functionality you normally need to appear at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all fantastic news on the CRM front — there are a few big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM attribute collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity monitoring. Additional CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to some lead or customer; doing this keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There is now no way of doing this together with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one emails to leads or customers.

Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is tough. You need to add contacts to a list , then go to the CRM pipeline, add a deal and hunt your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to put in a deal directly to a pipeline and enter the contact information of your guide or client at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it’s a new feature and the things it can do on the automation aspect is remarkable. I’m optimistic that this attribute gets developed over time since done right, it is possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of getting your email database and your webinar tool under the same roof is extremely appealing.
The pricing is also very aggressive also by comparison to established webinar solutions. For instance, among the primary webinar services, Gotowebinar, charges $199 per month to host webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can actually do the same (plus a great deal more) with Getresponse for $165 (as long as your listing size is below 25,000).

There are two methods you can employ to add subscribers to a mailing list: having a’single opt-in’ or even a’double opt-in’ process.
If you utilize one opt-in procedure, the individual registering to your own mailing list is added to your mailing list the moment they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in procedure, the person registering to your record is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he must click before being subscribed.
The main advantage of a single sampling procedure is that it makes it really easy for users to sign up for a mailing list; additionally, it generally increases conversion rate and so the amount of readers on your list. A double opt-in procedure is better for verifying that the folks subscribing to a list are using actual email addresses and contributes to cleaner information and more accurate stats (because open rates etc. are calculated based on a list comprising only email addresses).
Now, the good news is that Getresponse permits you to take advantage of either opt-in approach – this isn’t true with all competing goods. So a thumbs up for Getresponse for being flexible on this.
You’re probably thinking that all this sounds quite good — but to tell the truth, I think there is a great deal of room for improvement with regard to Getresponse form templates.
For a start, they’re not responsive (i.e.they won’t resize themselves automatically to match the device they’re being viewed on).
Furthermore, no controllers are provided by Getresponse to switch forms on or off on particular devices or pages of your site. At the light of Google’s new strategy to pop-ups (where sites can have a hit in search results if they display’intrusive interstitials’ on mobile devices) this really is a bit of a concern.

Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible way to make blocks of content and move them around an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly user friendly to use and may cause accidental deletion of material, or placement of it at the wrong portion of the e-newsletter.
If you can get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it will make for a helpful tool – it is just that the execution of it might be rather better.
Also, as described above, the CRM tool might be better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals could be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial that Getresponse supplies is fully functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and now I’m getting charged for a commodity I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is the fact that it restricts the amount of readers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if this could be increased a bit, as it would help potential users try out the tool in more’real-world’ scenarios.

It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that depending on the size of your list, it may occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can host a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 recording database is exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a slightly cheaper, if much less operational offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing :
Some competing providers — notably Mailchimp – provide free account for users with a few records (but these don’t offer the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid plan).
