Getresponse’s attribute set is arguably among the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does it provide all of the key stuff you’d expect from an email advertising platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned previously, it has recently been expanding the attribute set to the point at which it is morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style advertising and marketing platform.
The question is whether Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let us drill down into the crucial qualities to find out.
Up until very recently Getresponse support was amongst the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone support alongside live chat support, email service and various online tutorials / resources.
Sadly, the telephone service has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to have to use live chat (24/7) or email support. Additionally, you will find a lot of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they are introduced in easy-to-understand categories, so it’s generally pretty straightforward to locate a good beginning point for a template and then edit it before you are happy with the plan.
If you are really unhappy with the templates offered by Getresponse, there is also the choice of purchasing a template from a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is the assortment of RSS-to-email applications options aren’t so extensive (only 11 templates are supplied – well short of the 700+ available for routine newsletters!) Landing page Builder

If you are serious about landing pages – plus they are unquestionably a useful feature – then it’s definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You may buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an extra $15 per month, but quite frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to show an unlimited number of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I had been interested in the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive plans (which I suppose is what Getresponse want you to do!) .

One of the most frustrating facets of using many famous CRM tools is that the necessity to export data to CSV and back into your email marketing instrument as a way to perform mailouts (or the need to export data from the email marketing tool in your CRM to add leads to it).
So when I saw Getresponse recently introducing a brand new CRM feature into their plans I had been intrigued – that could possibly eliminate all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it to perform quite basic tasks: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and track activity (mails, telephone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this particular front. The CRM is currently integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders depending on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how to use this functionality is as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular point on a sales pipeline based on the page of your website they finished a form ;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline period a few days later;
and based on the action they took with regard to this email (clicking on a certain link ) you could automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them to a webinar.
It is very smart stuff, and I can not think of any similar email advertising product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of functionality you normally must appear at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it’s not all fantastic news on the CRM front there are some big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM attribute collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity tracking. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to some lead or customer; doing this keeps a record of the communication in the contact’s history. There is now no method of doing so together with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one mails to leads or customers.
And oddly, if you click a contact in a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact activity — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications which you’ve sent to your leads are not displayed. To see this, you need to go from the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not display their history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Finally, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list , then visit the CRM pipeline, include a deal and hunt your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a bargain right to a pipeline and then input the contact details of your lead or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it is a new attribute and the things it can perform on the automation side is impressive. I am optimistic that this attribute becomes developed over time because done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to host webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally utilized as a lead-generation strategy, the notion of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is very attractive.
The pricing is also very aggressive also compared to based webinar solutions. For instance, one of the primary webinar services, Gotowebinar, fees $199 per month to sponsor webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can actually do exactly the same (plus a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (so long as your list size is under 25,000).

The email deliverability rate – the proportion of e-newsletters delivered that successfully hit inboxes – is always an important thing to look at when selecting an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing providers are that forthright in their deliverability prices; however, Getresponse seems pretty open about this, with this to say about it on their own website:

If you can get your head around it, and practice using it a bit, it will result in a useful instrument – it is just that the implementation of it might be somewhat better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM tool could be far better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse supplies is fully operational and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I’m getting charged for a product that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is the fact that it limits the amount of subscribers you can send to to 1000. It would be good if that could be increased a little, as it would help potential users try the tool out in more’real world’ situations.

The only well-known service that I could think of that comes in considerably cheaper is Mad Mimi, which costs $42 a month to host up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the performance provided by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as extensive as Getresponse’s or really the other products mentioned above).
It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers thinner pricing rings, meaning that depending on the size of your list, it may sometimes be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
At the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 recording database will be exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a slightly cheaper, if less operational offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of on the pricing :
Some competing providers — especially Mailchimp – offer free account for users that have a few records (but these do not offer the entire range of features that you get on a paid program ).
