We are going to discuss all these attributes in depth below, but first, let’s look at pricing.
Getresponse’s feature set is possibly one of the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does it provide all of the key stuff you’d expect from an email advertising platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned above, it has been expanding the attribute set to the point where it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The question is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of not – let’s drill down into the key qualities to learn.
Up until quite recently Getresponse service was amongst the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the firm offered phone service alongside live chat support, email support and various online tutorials / resources.
Sadly, the phone support has been discontinued. Instead you are going to have to use live chat (24/7) or email service. Additionally, you will find tons of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they are introduced in easy-to-understand categories, so it is generally pretty simple to locate a good beginning point to get a template and then edit it until you’re delighted with the design.

This kind of functionality goes way beyond what’s traditionally been available from autoresponders, and allows you to create a user journey that may be customised to the nth level.

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns which use landing pages will usually create far more leads in the event, instead of simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Site, they tip users to appealing’squeeze pages’ containing clear information and a clean, well-designed data capture form.
Getresponse offers something very beneficial in this regard that the majority of its rivals do not: a landing page founder (and one that is mobile-friendly to boot).
Products like Campaign Monitor and Aweber ask you to use a third party (and non invasive ) landing page generating tool like Unbounce or Instapage; Mailchimp lately introduced some landing page functionality but it’s yet to become as sophisticated at Getresponse’s.
But unless you are on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ plan, the Getresponse landing page functionality is fairly limited: you can just create 1 landing page, that can simply be displayed 1,000 times per month.
Also, and very importantly, you can not utilize the landing page A/B testing functionality on the cheapest Getresponse plan (where the system shows a sample of your customers different versions of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and ultimately rolls out the best performing landing page mechanically ).
If you’re serious about landing pages – and they are certainly a useful attribute – then it is definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can purchase the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an extra $15 per month, however quite frustratingly, even though the add-on allows you to show an infinite amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t include A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I had been considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the pricier plans (which I guess is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do) .
Getresponse was before its competitors for quite some time using its responsive email design functionality, which automatically corrects your e-newsletter’s template so that if a user is reading it on a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than most similar goods when it comes to displaying a responsive preview of your e-newsletter – you simply hit a’cellphone preview’ button for a quick snapshot of what your email looks like on a smartphone (see image right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is the need to export data to CSV and back into your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export info from the email marketing tool into your CRM to include prospects to it).
When I saw Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM attribute into their plans I was intrigued – this could possibly eliminate all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in 1 place.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you could only use it in order to perform rather basic jobs: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and monitor activity (mails, telephone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their video game somewhat on this front. The CRM is currently integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users into a CRM pipeline based on their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders depending on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how to use this operation would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a sales pipeline depending on the page of your site that they completed a form ;
you could then send a automated email tailored to this pipeline period a couple of days later;
and dependent on the action they took with regard to that email (clicking on a particular link etc) you could automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them to a webinar.
It’s very smart stuff, and that I can’t think of any email advertising product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of functionality you normally need to look at dedicated — and more expensive — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it’s not all fantastic news about the CRM front there are some big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity monitoring. Additional CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to a lead or client; doing so keeps a list of this communication from the contact’s history. There is currently no method of doing so together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to prospects or customers.
And oddly, if you click on a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications that you’ve sent to your leads are not displayed. Task management is non-existent too: unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Finally, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You have to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to put in a bargain right to a pipeline and then input the contact details of your guide or customer at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it’s a new feature and the stuff it could perform on the automation side is remarkable. I’m hopeful that this feature gets developed over time because done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to host webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally utilized as a lead-generation strategy, the notion of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the exact same roof is extremely attractive.

The email deliverability rate – the proportion of e-newsletters sent that successfully reach inboxes – is always an important thing to look at when selecting an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing providers are that forthright about their deliverability rates; but Getresponse seems reasonably open about that, with this to say about it on their own site:

If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a helpful instrument – it is only that the execution of it might be rather better.
Also, as explained above, the CRM tool might be better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals could be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse provides is completely functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon providing credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I am getting charged for a product that I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it restricts the amount of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be good if this could be raised a little, as it might help potential users try the tool out in more’real world’ scenarios.

Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 recording database will be exactly the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally cheaper, if less operational offering for $12 per month.
