Up until very recently Getresponse support was amongst the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the company offered phone support together with live chat support, email service and assorted online tutorials / resources.

If you are really unhappy with the templates provided by Getresponse, there is also the choice of purchasing a template from a third party provider such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is the range of RSS-to-email applications options aren’t very extensive (only 11 templates are supplied – well short of the 700+ available for regular newsletters!) And a few of them played a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will typically create far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing people to some (cluttered!) Site, they point users to attractive’squeeze pages’ containing clear info and a tidy, well-designed data capture type.

However, unless you’re on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ plan, the Getresponse landing page functionality is fairly limited: you can just produce 1 landing page, that could simply be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Additionally, and above all, you can’t utilize the landing page A/B testing performance on the cheapest Getresponse program (whereby the system shows a sample of your users different versions of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and finally rolls out the best performing landing page mechanically ).
If you are serious about landing pages – and they are certainly a useful attribute – then it’s definitely worth considering one of the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You can purchase the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an extra $15 per month, however quite frustratingly, even though the add-on permits you to show an infinite amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it does not include A/B testing.
Therefore, if I had been interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I’d just go for one of the pricier programs (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do!) .
Getresponse was before its competitors for quite a while using its responsive email layout performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that if an individual is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this today, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is better than most similar products as soon as it comes to displaying a reactive record of your e-newsletter – you simply hit on a’mobile preview’ button to get a quick snapshot of your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is the need to export information to CSV and back to your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export data from the email marketing tool in your CRM to include leads to it).
When I watched Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM feature in their plans I had been intrigued – this could potentially eliminate all that data exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it in order to carry out rather basic jobs: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and track activity (mails, phone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users into a CRM pipeline based on their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders depending on the accession of a new contact into a pipeline phase.
An example of how you could use this functionality would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular stage on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your site they finished a form on;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline period a few days later;
and dependent on the actions they took in regards to that email (clicking on a particular link etc) you can automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them to a webinar.
It is very clever stuff, and I can’t think of any similar email marketing product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of performance you normally must look at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it is not all good news about the CRM front — there are a few big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM attribute set.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or client; doing this keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There’s now no method of doing so with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one emails to prospects or clients.
And oddly, if you click a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can not see their contact activity — i.e., the activities they have taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you have delivered to your prospects aren’t displayed. To observe this, you need to go from the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not display their deal history.
Task management is non-existent also: unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts into a pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list , then visit the CRM pipeline, include a deal and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to put in a bargain right to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it is a new attribute and the things it can perform on the automation aspect is impressive. I’m hopeful that this feature gets developed over time since done right, it is potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation tactic, the idea of having your email database along with your webinar tool under the exact same roof is very attractive.
The pricing is also very aggressive too compared to based webinar solutions. For instance, among the leading webinar providers, Gotowebinar, charges $199 a month to sponsor webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can really do the same (and a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (so long as your list size is under 25,000).
With respect to attendee limits, the Getresponse’Pro’ program allows you to sponsor a webinar with around 100 participants; the’Max’ program’s cap is 500.
You can also buy webinars performance as a add on to a more affordable plan: $40 a month buys you a 100 attendees limit, $99 per month buys you a 500 attendees restrict. It isn’t clear what your options are if you need to host bigger scale distributions than that however.

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters delivered that successfully reach inboxes – is obviously an important point to look at when choosing an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing suppliers are that forthright in their deliverability prices; but Getresponse seems pretty open about that, with this to say about it in their website:

Obviously you are going to have to take the company’s word for this, but assuming it is true, it is a good speed and inspires confidence that the huge majority of emails that you send using Getresponse will achieve their receivers.
Furthermore, Getresponse actually provides you the deliverability rate of each message on your email analytics – that is something I have not struck on rival products’ metrics. A thumbs up for this.
I do need to pull Getresponse on one thing relating to deliverability however: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it is advisable to use a system named DKIM email authentication. You are able to use DKIM using Getresponse – but just on the more expensive Getresponse’Max’ programs.

On the whole, Getresponse is really simple to use. It’s certainly easy enough to do all the basics: import contacts, create campaigns, setup autoresponders and check statistics and the interface is really intuitive and clean.
In terms of how it stacks up against its competitors in this respect, I’d argue that Campaign Monitor is a little bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp includes a slicker user interface (though one that makes locating certain functionality a bit tricky at times).
One area I think that might be significantly better in the user-friendliness point of view is that the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide a very flexible way to create blocks of articles and move them around an e-newsletter, in practice it’s fairly clunky to use and may cause accidental deletion of material, or placement of it in the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a bit, it will make for a useful instrument – it is just that the implementation of it could be rather better.
Also, as described above, the CRM tool might be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial which Getresponse provides is fully operational and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I’m getting charged for a commodity that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is the fact that it limits the amount of readers it is possible to send to to 1000. It would be useful if that could be raised a little, as it would help potential users try out the tool in more’real-world’ situations.

Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers thinner pricing bands, meaning that depending on the size of your list, it may sometimes be a slightly cheaper alternative than Getresponse.
At the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can sponsor a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database will be the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a slightly more affordable, if less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of about the pricing :
Some competing providers — notably Mailchimp – offer free accounts for users that have a small number of records (but these don’t offer the entire range of features that you get on a paid plan).

Some improvements to Getresponse do have to be made however, particularly where the email designer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and not as responsive than it should be. Disadvantages of Getresponse
The drag and drop interface for designing mails can be a little bit on the fiddly side.
