Intro G2 Crowd Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? G2 Crowd Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, site, Industry, address, business size, list size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of the approval process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain so they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic fit for their services.
(Quite simply, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split effort: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard effort.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among the pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ choices where you are able to choose your classes or sections.
The tab also allows you To develop segment-like rules , in case your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? G2 Crowd Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email advertising program now.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll see two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially principles.
Your readers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Principles, in addition to another rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get into in a moment — and they don’t have any value aside from what you call them.
As you start to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular areas, such as title, company, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I will not go too much into the shape Stuff here because I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from new Subscribers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. G2 Crowd Email Marketing
If you are not impressed by what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a great foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all ultimately do the identical job; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Adequate set of type building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover here.
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To customize everything in the form style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which will replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can check how your form displays on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of the Embedded form but like I said before, you may even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are Still a few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most Comprehensive selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Considering paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have .
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any effort will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see precisely how your readers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are also Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, even though I found these to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available statistics more than enough to meet their needs.
What is email advertising with no dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have used a visual workflow builder, then You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for each and every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less effective…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when creating new emails In the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email within your automation block, so you can get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it’s actually much faster than what I am used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded within the automations builder, so you’ll likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It’s fast enough for me, Personally, however I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there’s one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or measure ) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This Sort of behavioral targeting only is not available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. G2 Crowd Email Marketing
The Price of MailerLite is no doubt among those tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an amazing option for those starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Cost of this rivalry generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly among the cheapest options on the market. Plus, if you are willing to pay annually, you are also able to get an even greater discount.
In Reality, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few email marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
Thinking about giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you In the remarks. G2 Crowd Email Marketing
