Intro Freelance Email Marketing
If I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Freelance Email Marketing
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses today, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical large players for the previous decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, site, Business, address, company size, list size and also the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to confirm your Site (or domain ).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain in order that they could email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Steps, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite team will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you’re a fantastic fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the features, but you will not be able to send anything before accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these steps are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, don’t worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the option of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can change to the Templates tab and select from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to work with, Making customizing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add different Types of articles to your email, such as videos, merchandise columns, and social connections.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting isn’t quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that is immediately, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Freelance Email Marketing
Handling Your Subscribers
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified rules, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll Start to understand Where Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I will admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re optional.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their particular fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers along with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can easily add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added into a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here because I have a whole section on this below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to understand that this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. Freelance Email Marketing
If you are not impressed with what you’ve seen up to Now, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, for example the majority of us, you do not have that pure eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the basic building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a lot to cover here.
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything in the kind style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form functions, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a good base to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools like Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your own branding.
Last, you can choose the near Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms will render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation analytics, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special coverage for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems beneath These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see precisely how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and many will get the available data more than enough to meet their demands.
What’s email advertising with no dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this particular review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, including a Postpone, a bubble break, or an action, like transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for transferring Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these actions can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that activate new automation workflows. It is simply much less efficient…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the critique.
This time, however, once you’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email address will probably be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it’s really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find this a downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on the way Readers interact with all the pages on your site.
This kind of behavioral targeting just is not accessible MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you might want to skip this one. Freelance Email Marketing
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of those tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium programs?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Cost of this rivalry on average, MailerLite is by far among the cheapest options on the market. Plus, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those very few marketing tools to disrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to conquer.
