Getresponse’s attribute set is arguably one of the most comprehensive on the market.
Not only does this provide all the key stuff you would expect from an email advertising platform – record templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned above, it’s been expanding the attribute set to the point where it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The inquiry is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of not – let’s drill down to the crucial qualities to find out.
Up until quite recently Getresponse support was amongst the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone service together with live chat support, email service and assorted online tutorials / resources.
Regrettably, the telephone support has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to need to use live chat (24/7) or email service. Getresponse provides some very comprehensive analytics and reporting choices. You get all the Fundamentals of track – open speed, click-through, unsubscribe Prices and so forth – but also to that there are some very nifty features Which Are worth a Specific mention, namely:

Thus far so good with Getresponse, however, in regards to templates, Getresponse arguably drops down a bit.
Unfortunately, the templates provided from the box seem somewhat dated; they are not as attractive as those offered by Mailchimp or even Campaign Monitor (and I marginally prefer Aweber’s offering here too).
On the plus side, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can alter fonts, layouts and vision easily enough with all the controls supplied; and of course there is nothing to stop you simply designing your HTML email template and importing the code for it.
Furthermore, you will find a lot of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they’re presented in easy-to-understand categories, therefore it’s generally pretty straightforward to locate a good beginning point for a template and edit it before you’re happy with the plan.
If you’re really not pleased with the templates offered by Getresponse, there is also the option of buying a template by a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is that the assortment of RSS-to-email software options aren’t so extensive (just 11 templates are supplied – well short of their 700+ accessible for regular newsletters!) And some of them played up a bit for me when I tested them in Outlook (2010). Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns which use landing pages will typically generate far more leads in the event, instead of simply directing people to some (cluttered!) Website, they tip users to attractive’squeeze pages’ containing clear info and a clean, well-designed data capture form.
Getresponse provides something very beneficial in this regard that the majority of its competitors don’t: a landing page creator (and one that is mobile-friendly to boot).
Products such as Campaign Monitor and Aweber require that you make use of a third party (and paid-for) landing page creating tool like Unbounce or Instapage; Mailchimp recently introduced some landing page functionality but it is yet to become as sophisticated at Getresponse’s.
But unless you’re on a Getresponse’Guru’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ plan, the Getresponse landing page functionality is rather limited: you can just produce one landing page, which can only be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Also, and very importantly, you can not utilize the landing page A/B testing performance on the cheapest Getresponse plan (whereby the machine shows a sample of your users different versions of your landing page, computes conversion rates, and finally rolls out the top performing landing page mechanically ).
If you’re serious about landing pages – plus they’re certainly a helpful attribute – then it is definitely worth considering among the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an extra $15 a month, however quite frustratingly, even though the add-on allows you to display an unlimited amount of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it does not consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page performance, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for one of the more expensive programs (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do) .

Among the most frustrating aspects of utilizing many famous CRM tools is that the need to export information to CSV and straight back into your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the need to export data from the email marketing tool in your CRM to add leads to it).
So when I saw Getresponse lately introducing a new CRM attribute in their plans I had been intrigued – this could potentially do away with all that info exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in 1 area.
Initially I was not that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool as you can only use it in order to carry out quite basic jobs: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and monitor activity (emails, phone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how you could use this functionality is as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a sales pipeline based on the page of your site they finished a form on;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline period a few days afterwards;
and based on the action they took in regards to this email (clicking on a certain link etc) you can automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and invite invite them into a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can’t think of any similar email marketing product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of functionality you normally need to appear at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it’s not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Additional CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to some lead or customer; doing so keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There’s now no method of doing so together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one mails to prospects or clients.
And oddly, when you click on a contact in a deal pipeline, you can not see their contact activity — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications which you have delivered to your prospects aren’t displayed. To observe this, you need to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and then click on their details. But guess what? Doing so does not exhibit their history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You have to add contacts to a list , then visit the CRM pipeline, add a deal and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a bargain directly to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your lead or client at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it is a new feature and the stuff it can perform on the automation aspect is remarkable. I am hopeful that this feature gets developed over time since done right, it is potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to sponsor webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation tactic, the idea of having your email database and your webinar tool under the same roof is extremely attractive.
The pricing is also very competitive also compared to based webinar solutions. For example, among the primary webinar providers, Gotowebinar, fees $199 per month to host webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can really do the same (plus a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (as long as your list size is under 25,000).
With regard to attendee limitations, the Getresponse’Pro’ program permits you to sponsor a webinar with around 100 participants; the’Max’ plan’s cap is 500.
You can also buy webinars functionality as an add-on to a cheaper plan: $40 a month buys you a 100 attendees limit, $99 a month buys you a 500 attendees limit. It’s not clear what your choices are if you need to host bigger scale distributions than that however.

The email deliverability rate – the proportion of e-newsletters sent that successfully hit inboxes – is always an important point to look at when selecting an email marketing tool.
Not all email advertising suppliers are that forthright about their deliverability rates; however, Getresponse seems pretty open about that, with this to say about it on their website:

Since deliverability depends on many factors, including the content of your messages, the deliverability rate could vary for every mailing. For all our customers collectively, nevertheless, we are proud to say our general deliverability rate now stands at 99%.
Obviously you are going to have to choose the organization’s word for this, but supposing it’s true, it’s a fantastic rate and inspires confidence that the vast majority of emails that you send using Getresponse will reach their intended recipients.

Additionally, no controllers are provided by Getresponse to change forms on or off on particular devices or individual pages of your site. At the light of Google’s brand new approach to pop-ups (where websites can take a hit in search results if they exhibit’intrusive interstitials’ on mobile devices) this is a bit of a concern.

On the whole, Getresponse is really simple to use. It’s certainly easy enough to perform all of the fundamentals: import contacts, create campaigns, set up autoresponders and check statistics and the interface is really clean and intuitive.
In terms of how it stacks up against its competitors in this regard, I would assert that Campaign Monitor is a tiny bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp includes a slicker user interface (although one that makes locating certain performance a little bit tricky at times).
One place I think that could be significantly better in the user-friendliness point of view is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to make blocks of content and move them about an e-newsletter, in practice it’s fairly clunky to use and can lead to accidental deletion of content, or positioning of it at the wrong part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a bit, it will make for a helpful tool – it’s only that the execution of it could be somewhat better.
Also, as explained above, the CRM tool could be far better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be unnecessarily difficult.
The 30-day free trial that Getresponse supplies is fully functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I’m getting charged for a product I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is the fact that it restricts the amount of readers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if that could be increased a little, as it would help potential users try the tool out in more’real world’ situations.

Pricing Vs Competitors
So long as you’re happy to use one of those entry-level’Email’ programs, the pay-per-month Getresponse programs are on the whole cheaper than those provided by many of its key competitors, especially if you have a fairly high number of email addresses on your own database.
For example, if you’ve got a mailing list comprising between 9,000 and 10,000 records that you want to send an unlimited number of emails per month to, then you’ll find that hosting it using Getresponse costs $65 monthly.

Decision Campaign Monitor’s pricing structure depends not just the number of email addresses on your database however on how many emails you send a month too. If you’re delighted to set a limit on the number of emails sent via Campaign Monitor (from the case above, to 50k mails ), you can expect to pay a monthly charge of $89, still considerably greater than Getresponse’s.
The only well-known service I could think of that comes in significantly cheaper is Mad Mimi, which charges $42 a month to sponsor up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the functionality offered by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as extensive as Getresponse’s or indeed another products mentioned above).
It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers thinner pricing bands, meaning that depending on the size of your listing, it might sometimes be a slightly cheaper alternative than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can sponsor a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month using Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 record database will be exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally more affordable, if less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be Conscious of about the pricing :
Some competing providers — especially Mailchimp – provide completely free account for users that have a few records (but these do not offer the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid plan).
As stated before, if you are prepared to pay upfront for 1 or two years, you can avail of significant discounts that the other competitors don’t yet provide.

It’s also one of the most interesting products of its kind – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. It is hard to think of any rival product that offers this’all around’ proposal, and it’s what continues to convince us to utilize it for Style Factory’s email advertising.
Some improvements to Getresponse do have to be made however, particularly where the email programmer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is more fiddly and not as responsive than it should be. A lot of improvements can be made to the data capture types too, especially for users wanting to exhibit them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader opinions, there are developments that could be made to the service offering.
Overall though I speed Getresponse very tremendously – you receive substantial bang for your buck with this item.
