When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what would you say? Everlytic
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online businesses now, email marketing has been Dominated by the identical big players for the last decade. Which means that they get promoted very heavily and achieve a lot of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, causing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.

Like most email marketing providers Nowadays, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, business size, list size and also the kind of content you intend to send.
Then, You Have to confirm your Website (or domain name).
This remains part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to this domain in order that they can email you a confirmation link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and perform with the features, but you will not be able to send anything until accepted.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to Deal with The majority of your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS campaign: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, the Majority of these will follow The exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
Otherwise, you can switch to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to add distinct Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social connections.
After making your adjustments, just click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Schedule’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your readers time zones.
Impressive, right? Everlytic
Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized efforts Are Essential if You are searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you open up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they meet the Specified principles, and are automatically added or eliminated accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even combine Principles, in addition to another rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are updated manually or through an Automation rule — that we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, but MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple subscribers collectively according to a common denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it’s a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your subscribers together with Your custom field data in distinct columns… or may simply add these fields to your forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I made and added into a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Things here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the approach I’d recommend if you wanted to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you are able to pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what is possible with custom fields, but it is important that you understand that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s fair to say MailerLite has their subscriber Management and personalization features on point. Everlytic
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After choosing’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like the majority people, you do not have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They ultimately do the same task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further construct or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual site builders, and this is already better than some dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all three kind types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Decent set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then place on your website to display it on specific pages.
Despite beginning super basic, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, of course, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to some form than just its appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded form also prevents users from redirecting.
Last but surely not least, you Can assess the way your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any design changes , but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that is an overview of this Embedded form but like I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of the installation Procedure is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a fantastic base to work from and the editor is at least as easy to use for this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to observe this level of control over popup types.
And, like before, you can play the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Finally, you can Select the close Behavior of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber development, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you special reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover a few statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report to get a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see your readers interacted with your mails compared to one another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will get the available data more than sufficient to meet their needs.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The good news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll instantly feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After setting your trigger, you can Start adding steps to your workflow.
These steps could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a conditional split, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or upgrading their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I put together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks a number of the conditional components. (Split, Visit, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficiency here is when creating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email cube to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the review.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means you can get an concept of what it contains at a glance.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I’m used to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll probably find that this downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is 1 Kind of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to activate an automation (or step) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you may want to skip this one. Everlytic
The cost of MailerLite is no doubt one of those tools largest Selling points, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) to get up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this program, it’s still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half the Cost of this competition generally, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to locate anything that does the Exact Same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is one of the email advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in recent decades, which is no easy feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
Thinking of giving it a twist? Let us know how it works for you From the remarks. Everlytic
