Up until very recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone support alongside live chat support, email service and assorted online tutorials / tools.
Sadly, the telephone support has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to need to use live chat (24/7) or email service. This type of performance goes far beyond what’s traditionally been on offer from autoresponders, and lets you make a user journey that can be customised to the nth degree.

Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that use landing pages will typically generate far more leads if, instead of simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Website, they tip users to appealing’squeeze pages’ containing clear information and a clean, well-designed data capture type.
Getresponse provides something very beneficial in this regard that most of its competitors don’t: a landing page creator (and one that’s mobile-friendly to boot).
Products like Campaign Monitor and Aweber require you to make use of a third party (and paid-for) landing page creating tool such as Unbounce or Instapage; Mailchimp lately introduced a landing page performance but it is yet to become sophisticated at Getresponse’s.
But unless you are on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ program, the Getresponse landing page performance is rather limited: you can just create 1 landing page, that can simply be displayed 1,000 times per month.
Also, and above all, you can not use the landing page A/B testing performance on the cheapest Getresponse plan (where the machine indicates a sample of your users different variations of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and ultimately rolls out the best performing landing page automatically).
If you’re serious about landing pages – and they’re unquestionably a useful attribute – then it is definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an extra $15 a month, but quite frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to display an infinite amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it does not include A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was considering the Getresponse landing page functionality, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive programs (which I suppose is what Getresponse want one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its competitors for quite a while with its responsive email layout performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when an individual is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have captured up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than most similar products when it comes to displaying a responsive record of your e-newsletter – you just hit a’cellphone preview’ button for a quick snapshot of what your email looks like on a smartphone (see image right).

Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating aspects of using many well-known CRM tools is that the need to export data to CSV and back into your email marketing instrument in order to perform mailouts (or the necessity to export data from the email marketing tool into your CRM to include leads to it).
So when I watched Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM feature in their plans I was intrigued – this could potentially eliminate all that data exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I was not that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it in order to perform rather basic tasks: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and monitor activity (emails, phone calls etc.) with those contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users into a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or trigger autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact into a pipeline phase.
An example of how to use this operation is as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your website that they finished a form ;
you can then send a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days afterwards;
and dependent on the action they took in regards to this email (clicking on a particular link ) you can automatically move them on another phase of the pipeline and invite invite them to a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can not think of any email marketing product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of performance you normally must look at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it’s not all good news about the CRM front there are a few big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM attribute set.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity tracking. Additional CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or client; doing so keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There is currently no method of doing this together with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to prospects or customers.
And oddly, when you click on a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can not see their contact action — i.e., the activities they have taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications which you have sent to your prospects aren’t displayed. To observe this, you need to go out of the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your contact in the contacts section and click on their details. But guess what? Doing so doesn’t display their history.
Task management is non-existent also: unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is difficult. You have to add contacts to a list first, then go to the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and search your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to put in a bargain right to a pipeline and input the contact details of your lead or client at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it is a new attribute and the stuff it can do on the automation aspect is impressive. I am hopeful that this attribute becomes developed over time because done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to host webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually utilized as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of having your email database and your webinar tool under the same roof is very appealing.
The pricing is also very aggressive too by comparison to based webinar solutions. By way of example, among the primary webinar providers, Gotowebinar, fees $199 a month to host webinars with up to 500 attendees; you can actually do exactly the same (and a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (so long as your list size is under 25,000).

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters sent that successfully reach inboxes – is obviously a very important point to check at when selecting an email marketing instrument.

Now, the good news is that Getresponse permits you to make use of either opt-in approach – this is not the case with all competing goods. So a thumbs up for Getresponse for being flexible on this.

1 area I think that could be significantly better from a user-friendliness standpoint is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide a very flexible way to make blocks of content and transfer them around an e-newsletter, in practice it is quite user friendly to use and may cause accidental deletion of content, or placement of it at the wrong portion of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a useful instrument – it is only that the implementation of it might be somewhat better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM tool might be far better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day free trial which Getresponse supplies is completely functional and the free trial isn’t contingent upon providing credit card information.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I am getting charged for a product that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is the fact that it limits the amount of subscribers it is possible to send to 1000. It would be good if this could be raised a little, as it might help prospective users try out the tool in more’real-world’ scenarios.

Provided that you’re happy to use one of the entry-level’Email’ plans, the pay-per-month Getresponse programs are on the whole more affordable than those supplied by many of its key competitors, especially if you’ve got a reasonably large number of email addresses onto your own database.

Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing rings, meaning that depending on the size of your listing, it might sometimes be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database is exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a slightly more affordable, if much less functional offering for $12 per month.

Some developments to Getresponse do have to be made however, especially where the email designer is concerned – its drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and less responsive than it ought to be. A good deal of improvements could be made to the data capture types too, particularly for users wanting to display them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader feedback, there are developments which could be made to the service offering.
Overall though I speed Getresponse very highly – you get substantial bang for your buck with this product.
