Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information such as your company name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and even the kind of material you intend to send.
Then, You Have to verify your Site (or domain ).
This remains part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply ask which email is related to that domain in order that they can email you a verification link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Site, and determine whether you are a fantastic match for their service.
(Quite simply, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the attributes, but you won’t be able to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
However, while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent unscrupulous users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle Nearly all your email marketing.
(We will get to automations shortly, do not worry.)
But whether it’s a new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there’s always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Create Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular effort: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t start your broadcast email, together with the option of changing the subject line and email content.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends fresh content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal effort.
So let’s walk you through it.
As Soon as You click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — which will move you into the dragn’ drop editor .
In the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click on the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I will choose the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also utilize the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, merchandise columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ choices where you can select your groups or segments.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, whether that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Specialist
Managing Your Clients
Possessing granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most important aspects of any email advertising program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You’re looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers allow you to”label” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here’s what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can also combine Principles, as well as an alternate rule when the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The next tab is for groups, and despite the difference in name, These behave much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Unlike Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation principle — which we’ll get into in a moment — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you Begin to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are generally used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in the event you’re unsure:
Fundamentally, groups are more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments allow you to bulge multiple contributors collectively based on a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I will admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their own fields, such as title, company, and nation.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers together with Your custom field data in separate columns… or can simply add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on this below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wanted to use this feature.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scraping the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important that you know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on stage. Email Marketing Specialist
If you are not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then maybe The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you will be Able to select from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic foundation to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, though They all finally do the same job; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I’ve used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is already better than a few dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a lot to cover .
Let us begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to display it on particular pages.
Despite starting off super basic, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the form style, subjects, background, title, enter fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to a form than just its physical appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure the way the Form works, including adding extra fields and setting a custom success page.
(There’s even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success page…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, That can replace the embedded kind also prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check how your form screens on mobile by switching the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an overview of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation process is identical, there are A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use for this form type.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your form under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Data in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this campaign.
This is where you’ll find some more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and much more.
This should be plenty of Information for the ordinary user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, it is possible to click into individual areas of this report for a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so You can see how your subscribers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations will also be Accessible under the’Automations’ tab, although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and most will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their needs.
What is email marketing without a dashboard of automation?
For many reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing software.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These steps can be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, such as moving a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations similar to this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks a number of the conditional elements. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into a different automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just much less effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you’ll be asked to add your topic line that then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but once you’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will be Loaded into your automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation block, which means it’s possible to find an idea about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a fantastic example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s one Kind of automation You won’t find in MailerLite, and I think it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or measure ) based on how Readers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or intend to use, you may want to skip this one. Email Marketing Specialist
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly among those tools largest Selling things, and let’s face it, most of us love a fantastic bargain.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it’s still an amazing alternative for anyone starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options available on the industry. Additionally, if you’re ready to pay yearly, you can also get an even better discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few email advertising tools The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of decades, and that’s no easy feat.
While it is not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to conquer.
