Up until very recently Getresponse service was one of the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone service together with live chat support, email support and assorted online tutorials / tools.
Sadly, the phone support has been discontinued. Instead you’ll need to use live chat (24/7) or email service. In terms of the caliber of Getresponse service, I’ve not had to use it quite often (a good thing) but once I’ve I’ve discovered it for a bit of a mixed bag (less of a fantastic thing). A number of those live chat service I have received was excellent, and I have not needed to wait too much time to chat with an agent; the email service less so.

So far so good with Getresponse, however, when it comes to templates, Getresponse arguably falls down a little.
Unfortunately, the templates supplied out of the box look a bit dated; they are not as attractive as the ones offered by Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor (and I marginally prefer Aweber’s offering here also ).
On the plus side, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can change fonts, designs and vision easily enough using the controls supplied; and naturally there is nothing to prevent you designing your HTML email template and importing the code for it.
Furthermore, you will find tons of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they are presented in easy-to-understand categories, so it is generally pretty straightforward to find a good beginning point for a template and edit it before you’re happy with the design.
If you’re really not pleased with the templates provided by Getresponse, there is also the choice of buying a template by a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is that the assortment of RSS-to-email applications options are not so extensive (just 11 templates are supplied – well short of their 700+ available for regular newsletters!) And a few of them played up a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Landing page Builder

Among the most frustrating aspects of utilizing many famous CRM tools is that the need to export information to CSV and back to your email marketing tool as a way to perform mailouts (or the need to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to add leads to it).

An example of how you could use this functionality would be as follows:
You can add a contact to a particular stage on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your website that they completed a form ;
you can then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days afterwards;
and based on the action they took with regard to this email (clicking on a particular link ) you could automatically move them onto another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them to a webinar.
It’s very smart stuff, and that I can not think of any similar email advertising product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of functionality you normally need to look at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it is not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to a lead or customer; doing this keeps a list of the communication in the contact’s history. There’s currently no method of doing so together with the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to leads or clients.
And strangely, when you click a contact within a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you have delivered to your leads aren’t displayed. To see this, you need to go out of the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not display their history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Finally, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is tough. You need to add contacts to a list first, then go to the CRM pipeline, include a bargain and hunt your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a bargain directly to a pipeline and input the contact information of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. However, it’s a new feature and the stuff it can do on the automation aspect is remarkable. I am hopeful that this feature becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the capability to host webinars on the platform.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation tactic, the notion of having your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the same roof is very appealing.
The pricing is also very aggressive also by comparison to established webinar solutions. 1 area I feel that might be significantly better from a user-friendliness standpoint is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to make blocks of content and move them about an e-newsletter, in practice it is fairly user friendly to use and can cause accidental deletion of content, or positioning of it at the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it does result in a helpful instrument – it’s only that the execution of it could be rather better.
Also, as explained above, the CRM tool could be far better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial which Getresponse provides is fully functional and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and now I’m getting charged for a commodity that I do not use” scenario.

It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers thinner pricing bands, meaning that based on the size of your list, it might occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can host a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database is exactly the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally more affordable, if much less functional offering for $12 a month.

Some developments to Getresponse do have to be made however, particularly where the email programmer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is much more fiddly and not as responsive than it should be. A lot of improvements could be made into the data capture forms also, especially for users wanting to exhibit them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader feedback, there are improvements which could be made to the service offering.
Overall though I speed Getresponse very highly – you receive considerable bang for your buck with this product.
