Getresponse’s feature set is arguably one of the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does it provide all the crucial stuff you’d expect from an email marketing platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so forth, but as mentioned above, it has recently been expanding the attribute set to the point where it is morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The inquiry is whether Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let’s drill down to the key features to find out.
Up until very recently Getresponse service was amongst the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the firm offered phone support together with live chat support, email service and various online tutorials / tools.
Regrettably, the phone service has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to need to use live chat (24/7) or email support. Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is the assortment of RSS-to-email software options are not very extensive (just 11 templates are provided – well short of their 700+ available for regular newsletters!) Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will usually generate far more leads in the event, rather than simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Site, they tip users to appealing’squeeze pages’ containing clear info and a clean, well-designed data capture type.
Getresponse provides something very beneficial in this regard that the majority of its rivals do not: a landing page founder (and one that is mobile-friendly to boot).

However, unless you’re on a Getresponse’Pro’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ program, the Getresponse landing page performance is rather limited: you can just produce one landing page, which can only be displayed 1,000 times a month.
Additionally, and above all, you can’t use the landing page A/B testing functionality on the least expensive Getresponse program (where the machine shows a sample of your users different variations of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and finally rolls out the best performing landing page automatically).
If you’re serious about landing pages – and they are certainly a helpful feature – then it is definitely worth looking at among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You can purchase the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an additional $15 a month, but very frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to show an unlimited amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Accordingly, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive programs (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its rivals for quite some time using its responsive email layout performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when an individual is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be automatically optimised for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this now, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than many similar products when it comes to displaying a responsive preview of your e-newsletter – you just hit on a’mobile preview’ button for an instant snapshot of what your email resembles on a smartphone (see picture right).

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating facets of using many well-known CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool as a way to do mailouts (or the need to export info from the email marketing tool into your CRM to include prospects to it).
So when I saw Getresponse lately introducing a brand new CRM attribute in their plans I had been intrigued – that could potentially eliminate all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in one area.
Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool as you can only use it in order to perform rather basic tasks: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and track activity (mails, phone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their game a bit on this front. The CRM is now integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders depending on the accession of a new contact to a pipeline stage.
An example of how you could use this operation would be as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a particular point on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your site that they completed a form on;
you could then send them a automated email tailored to this pipeline period a few days later;
and dependent on the actions they took in regards to this email (clicking on a certain link etc) you can automatically move them on another stage of the pipeline and invite invite them to a webinar.
It is very smart stuff, and I can’t think of any email advertising product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of performance you normally must appear at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products like Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all good news about the CRM front — there are some big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is email activity tracking. Other CRM packages allow you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or client; doing so keeps a record of this communication from the contact’s history. There’s now no method of doing this together with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an easy way to send one-to-one mails to prospects or customers.
And oddly, if you click on a contact within a bargain pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the activities they’ve taken (open, clicks etc.) with regard to previous communications which you have sent to your leads aren’t displayed. To see this, you need to go out of the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and then click on their details. But guess what? Doing so does not exhibit their history.
Task management is non-existent too: Unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts to your pipeline stage is tough. You need to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, include a bargain and search your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to put in a deal right to a pipeline and input the contact details of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. But that said, it is a new attribute and the stuff it can do on the automation side is impressive. I’m hopeful that this feature gets developed over time because done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to host webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation tactic, the notion of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under the exact same roof is very attractive.
The pricing is also very aggressive too compared to based webinar solutions. For example, among the leading webinar providers, Gotowebinar, charges $199 a month to sponsor webinars with up to 500 attendees; you can really do exactly the same (plus a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (as long as your list size is under 25,000).
With regard to attendee limits, the Getresponse’Guru’ program allows you to sponsor a webinar with up to 100 participants; the’Max’ plan’s cap is 500.
You might even buy webinars performance as a add on to a cheaper plan: $40 per month buys you a 100 attendees limit, $99 per month buys you a 500 attendees restrict. It isn’t clear what your choices are if you will need to host bigger scale distributions than that however.

Clearly you’re going to have to take the organization’s term for this, but assuming it is true, it is a fantastic rate and inspires confidence that the huge majority of emails you send using Getresponse will reach their receivers.
Furthermore, Getresponse actually provides you the deliverability rate of every message on your email analytics – this is something that I haven’t struck on competing products’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I do have to pull Getresponse up on one thing relating to deliverability nevertheless: to ensure a high deliverability rate, it’s a good idea to use a platform named DKIM email authentication. You are able to use DKIM using Getresponse – but only on the more expensive Getresponse’Max’ plans.

Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide an extremely flexible approach to make blocks of articles and move them about an e-newsletter, in practice it is quite clunky to use and may cause accidental deletion of material, or placement of it in the wrong part of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head around it, and practice using it a little bit, it will make for a helpful instrument – it is only that the implementation of it might be somewhat better.
Additionally, as explained above, the CRM tool could be better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial that Getresponse supplies is completely operational and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I’m getting charged for a product that I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to the free trial is that it limits the number of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be good if this could be raised a little, as it might help potential users try the tool out in more’real-world’ scenarios.

It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing rings, meaning that based on the size of your listing, it may occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is really competitive too – you can host a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee to get a 1,000 record database will be the like Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi supplies a marginally cheaper, if much less operational offering for $12 per month.
Two final things to be aware of on the pricing :
Some competing providers — notably Mailchimp – offer free accounts for users with a few documents (but these do not supply the full range of features that you get on a paid program ).

The drag and drop interface for designing mails may be a little bit on the side.
The data capture forms supplied are not responsive and you can’t control when and where they’re displayed on your website.
CRM performance has to be improved considerably before it could be considered a replacement for a standalone CRM product.
There’s a limited selection of RSS-to-HTML e-newsletter templates provided.
You can just use’web-safe’ fonts in e-newsletters, which can make the templates seem marginally less slick than those supplied by competing products.
The pricing structure is a bit confusing, with users having to pay something of a superior to access the landing page creator tool.
The free trial restricts the number of readers you can send messages to to 1000.
