Sadly, the telephone service has now been discontinued. Instead you are going to have to use live chat (24/7) or email support. On the plus side, the templates are extremely tweakable – you can alter fonts, layouts and vision easily enough with all the controls provided; and naturally there is nothing to stop you designing your own HTML email template and minding the code for this.
Additionally, you will find a lot of templates to choose from — around 500 — and they’re introduced in easy-to-understand categories, so it’s generally pretty simple to find a good starting point for a template and edit it until you’re happy with the design.
If you are really unhappy with the templates provided by Getresponse, there’s also the option of purchasing a template by a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out seeing Getresponse’s templates is that the range of RSS-to-email applications options are not very extensive (just 11 templates are provided – well short of the 700+ available for routine newsletters!) And a few of them played up a bit for me when I tested them (2010). Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns which use landing pages will usually generate far more leads if, rather than simply directing people to a (cluttered!) Website, they point users to attractive’squeeze pages’ comprising clear information and a clean, well-designed data capture form.
Getresponse provides something quite useful in this regard that most of its competitors do not: a landing page creator (and one that’s mobile-friendly to boot).
Products like Campaign Monitor and Aweber ask that you make use of a third party (and paid-for) landing page creating tool like Unbounce or Instapage; Mailchimp recently introduced a landing page performance but it’s yet to become as sophisticated at Getresponse’s.
But unless you are on a Getresponse’Guru’,’Max’ or’Enterprise’ program, the Getresponse landing page functionality is fairly limited: you can just produce one landing page, that can only be displayed 1,000 times per month.
Also, and above all, you can’t use the landing page A/B testing functionality on the least expensive Getresponse program (where the system indicates a sample of your customers different versions of your landing page, computes conversion speeds, and ultimately rolls out the best performing landing page automatically).
If you are serious about landing pages – and they’re certainly a useful feature – then it’s definitely worth considering among the costlier Getresponse plans.
You may buy the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on for an extra $15 per month, but quite frustratingly, even though the add-on allows you to display an infinite number of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I had been interested in the Getresponse landing page performance, I would not bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the more expensive plans (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse would like you to do!) .

Customer Relationship Management
One of the most frustrating aspects of using many famous CRM tools is the necessity to export information to CSV and straight back to your email marketing tool in order to perform mailouts (or the need to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to add prospects to it).
So when I watched Getresponse recently introducing a brand new CRM feature into their plans I was intrigued – this could possibly do away with all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in 1 area.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool as you can only use it in order to perform quite basic jobs: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and track activity (mails, telephone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But lately Getresponse have upped their game somewhat on this front. The CRM is currently integrated with all Getresponse’s email marketing functionality and you can add users into a CRM pipeline based on their activity (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact to a pipeline phase.
An example of how to use this operation would be as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a specific point on a revenue pipeline depending on the page of your website that they finished a form ;
you could then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a few days afterwards;
and dependent on the action they took in regards to this email (clicking on a certain link etc) you could automatically move them onto another stage of the pipeline and automatically invite them to a webinar.
It is very clever stuff, and that I can’t think of any email advertising product offering this kind of tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of functionality you normally must look at committed — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it is not all fantastic news on the CRM front — there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM feature set.
The most glaring omission is email activity monitoring. Other CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address any time you send an email to some lead or customer; doing so keeps a record of this communication in the contact’s history. There is now no method of doing this with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one mails to prospects or customers.
And oddly, if you click on a contact within a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the actions they have taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications that you have sent to your leads are not displayed. To see this, you need to go from the CRM part of Getresponse, search for your contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing so does not exhibit their deal history.
Task management is non-existent also: Unlike committed CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts to a pipeline stage is difficult. You need to add contacts to a list first, then visit the CRM pipeline, include a deal and hunt your lists for the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is very clunky and time consuming. You should just be able to add a bargain right to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your lead or client at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it’s a new feature and the things it could do on the automation side is impressive. I am hopeful that this attribute gets developed over time since done right, it’s potentially a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to sponsor webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are generally used as a lead-generation tactic, the idea of getting your email database along with your webinar tool under precisely the exact same roof is very attractive.

The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters sent that successfully reach inboxes – is always a very important thing to check at when selecting an email marketing tool.
Not all email advertising providers are that forthright about their deliverability prices; however, Getresponse seems pretty open about this, with this to say about it in their own site:

Overall, Getresponse is really simple to use. It’s certainly easy enough to perform all of the basics: import contacts, create campaigns, setup autoresponders and check numbers and the interface is pretty clean and intuitive.
With regards to how it stacks up against its competitors in this regard, I would argue that Campaign Monitor is a little bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp includes a slicker user interface (though one that makes finding certain performance a bit tricky at times).
One place I think that could be significantly better in the user-friendliness point of view is the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop approach does in theory provide an extremely flexible way to create blocks of content and transfer them about an e-newsletter, in practice it’s fairly user friendly to use and may lead to accidental deletion of content, or placement of it in the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you’re able to get your head about it, and practice using it a bit, it does result in a useful instrument – it’s only that the implementation of it could be rather better.
Additionally, as explained above, the CRM tool could be better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals could be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial that Getresponse provides is fully functional and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card details.
This helps you avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for this particular trial and today I’m getting charged for a product I don’t use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is that it limits the number of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if that could be increased a little, as it might help potential users try the tool out in more’real-world’ scenarios.

The only well-known service I could think of that comes from significantly more affordable is Mad Mimi, which charges $42 a month to host up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the performance offered by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as broad as Getresponse’s or really the other products mentioned above).
Additionally, it is worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that based on the size of your listing, it might occasionally be a slightly cheaper alternative than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database containing 1,000 email addresses for $15 per month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (infinite send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database is the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally cheaper, if less functional offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be Conscious of about the pricing front:
Some competing providers — especially Mailchimp – offer free account for users with a small number of documents (but these do not supply the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid plan).
As mentioned earlier, if you’re ready to pay upfront for 1 or two decades, you can avail of significant discounts that the other competitors don’t yet supply.
