The question is if Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let us drill down to the key features to learn.
Up until quite recently Getresponse support was amongst the most comprehensive available for email marketing tools: the company offered phone support together with live chat support, email support and various online tutorials / tools.
Regrettably, the telephone support has now been discontinued. Instead you’ll have to use live chat (24/7) or email support. To be honest, most similar e-marketing platform suppliers only offer these two stations – if phone support is a deal-breaker for you then you may want to consider Aweber, which nonetheless provides it (you can read our Aweber review ).
In terms of the quality of Getresponse service, I have never needed to use it quite frequently (a good thing) but when I have I have found it for a small mixed bag (less of a good thing). A number of those live chat support I have received has been excellent, and I haven’t had to wait too long to talk to a broker; the email support less so.

So far so good with Getresponse, however, when it comes to templates, Getresponse arguably drops down a bit.
Unfortunately, the templates supplied from the box look a bit dated; they aren’t as attractive as the ones offered by Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor (and that I marginally prefer Aweber’s offering here also ).
On the other hand, the templates are very tweakable – you can change fonts, designs and imagery easily enough with all the controls provided; and of course there is nothing to prevent you designing your HTML email template and minding the code for it.
Furthermore, there are a lot of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they are introduced in easy-to-understand categories, so it is generally pretty simple to find a good beginning point to get a template and then edit it before you’re delighted with the plan.
If you are really not pleased with the templates offered by Getresponse, there is also the option of buying a template from a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.
Another thing worth pointing out regarding Getresponse’s templates is that the range of RSS-to-email applications options are not very extensive (just 11 templates are provided – well short of the 700+ accessible for regular newsletters!) And some of them played a bit for me when I tested them (2010). This kind of performance goes far beyond what’s traditionally been available from autoresponders, and lets you create a user travel which can be customised to the nth degree.

It’s important to note, however, that these more advanced marketing automation features are only available to the more expensive plans – the’Guru’ plan and upward. Email Marketing Software Api
Landing page Builder
Online advertising campaigns that make use of landing pages will typically create far more leads in the event, instead of simply directing people to some (cluttered!) Website, they tip users to attractive’squeeze pages’ comprising clear info and a tidy, well-designed data capture form.

Also, and above all, you can’t utilize the landing page A/B testing functionality on the cheapest Getresponse program (whereby the machine indicates a sample of your users different versions of your landing page, computes conversion rates, and finally rolls out the best performing landing page mechanically ).
If you’re serious about landing pages – and they’re certainly a useful feature – then it’s definitely worth looking at among the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages attribute as an add-on to get an additional $15 a month, but quite frustratingly, although the add-on allows you to display an infinite amount of landing pages to potential subscribers, it doesn’t consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I was interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I wouldn’t bother with this fairly half-baked add-on: I would just go for a few of the pricier programs (which I suppose is exactly what Getresponse want one to do!) .
Getresponse was ahead of its competitors for quite some time with its responsive email layout performance, which automatically adjusts your e-newsletter’s template so that when a user is reading it onto a mobile device, the layout and fonts will be optimized for the device in question.
Most competing products have caught up on this today, and offer responsive email templates, but Getresponse is far better than most similar products when it comes to displaying a responsive record of your e-newsletter – you simply hit on a’cellphone preview’ button for a quick snapshot of your email looks like on a smartphone (see picture right).
Not just that but you can’flip’ the smartphone trailer around, so that you can preview what your own email looks like when the display is employed in either portrait or landscape style. Email Marketing Software Api
Customer Relationship Management
Among the most frustrating facets of using many famous CRM tools is that the need to export information to CSV and back to your email marketing tool as a way to do mailouts (or the necessity to export info from the email marketing tool into your CRM to add prospects to it).
When I saw Getresponse lately introducing a new CRM attribute in their plans I was intrigued – that could potentially eliminate all that data exporting and importing, and keep everything neatly in 1 area.
Initially I wasn’t that impressed with the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it in order to perform quite basic tasks: you can create sales pipelines, add contacts to them and monitor activity (emails, telephone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this particular front. The CRM is currently integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users into a CRM pipeline according to their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders based on the addition of a new contact into a pipeline stage.
An example of how you could use this operation would be as follows:
It is possible to add a contact to a specific stage on a revenue pipeline based on the page of your site they completed a form ;
you could then send them a automated email tailored to that pipeline stage a couple of days afterwards;
and based on the actions they took in regards to that email (clicking on a particular link ) you could automatically move them onto another phase of the pipeline and automatically invite them into a webinar.
It is very smart stuff, and that I can not think of any similar email marketing product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this type of performance you normally need to appear at dedicated — and more expensive — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
But, it is not all fantastic news about the CRM front — there are some big things missing out of Getresponse’s CRM feature collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity monitoring. Other CRM packages permit you to bcc a dropbox email address whenever you send an email to a lead or customer; doing so keeps a list of the communication from the contact’s history. There is currently no method of doing this with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one mails to leads or customers.
And oddly, when you click a contact within a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the actions they have taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications that you’ve sent to your leads aren’t displayed. To see this, you need to go out of the CRM part of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and then click in their details. But guess what? Doing so doesn’t display their history.
Task management is non-existent also: unlike dedicated CRM tools, there is no way to assign tasks to other group members.
Finally, adding contacts into your pipeline stage is tough. You have to add contacts to a list first, then go to the CRM pipeline, add a deal and search your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability standpoint this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to add a bargain right to a pipeline and then input the contact information of your guide or customer at that point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is somewhat half-baked. But that said, it’s a new attribute and the stuff it could perform on the automation aspect is remarkable. I’m hopeful that this attribute becomes developed over time because done right, it’s possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to sponsor webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are usually utilized as a lead-generation strategy, the idea of having your email database and your webinar tool under the exact same roof is very attractive.
The pricing is also very competitive also compared to established webinar solutions. For instance, one of the leading webinar providers, Gotowebinar, charges $199 per month to host webinars with as much as 500 attendees; you can actually do the same (plus a whole lot more) with Getresponse for $165 (so long as your listing size is under 25,000).

Ultimately webinar functionality is potentially an extremely useful feature to have sitting on your e-marketing arsenal and its inclusion as a feature gives Getresponse a very significant edge over its key rivals, especially once you believe you could connect it in with a built-in CRM tool (more about this in a minute ). The email deliverability rate – the percentage of e-newsletters sent that successfully reach inboxes – is obviously an important point to check at when selecting an email marketing instrument.
Not all email marketing providers are that forthright in their deliverability prices; however, Getresponse seems reasonably open about that, with this to say about it on their own website:

Furthermore, Getresponse really gives you the deliverability rate of each message on your email analytics – that is something that I have not struck on rival goods’ metrics. A thumbs up for it.
I do need to pull Getresponse up on one thing relating to deliverability however: to guarantee a high deliverability speed, it is advisable to use a platform called DKIM email authentication. You can use DKIM using Getresponse – but only on the costlier Getresponse’Max’ programs.

There are two approaches you can use to add subscribers to a mailing list: having a’single opt-in’ or a’double opt-in’ process.
If you use use a single opt-in process, the individual signing up to your mailing list is added to a mailing list the moment they hit the submit button on your sign up form.
With a double opt-in process, the individual signing up to your list is sent via an email containing a confirmation link that s/he must click before being subscribed.
The main benefit of one opt-in process is that it makes it very simple for users to subscribe to your mailing list; additionally, it generally increases conversion rate and therefore the amount of readers on your record. A double opt-in procedure is best for verifying that the folks subscribing to a list are using real email addresses and leads to cleaner information and more accurate stats (because receptive rates etc. are calculated based on a list containing just real email addresses).
Now, the good news here is that Getresponse permits you to take advantage of either opt-in approach – this isn’t the case with all competing products. Thus a thumbs up for Getresponse to be flexible about this.
You are probably thinking that this sounds quite good — but to be honest, I think there is a lot of room for improvement with respect to Getresponse form templates.
To begin with, they’re not responsive (i.e.they won’t resize themselves automatically to suit the device they are being watched on).
Furthermore, no controls are provided by Getresponse to change forms on or off on particular devices or pages of your website. At the light of Google’s new approach to pop-ups (where sites can take a hit in search results if they exhibit’intrusive interstitials’ on mobile devices) this is a small concern.
To circumvent this, I generally avoid using Getresponse form templates, and make do with HTML embeded forms which I design myself, and for popups I connect my Getresponse into some growth-hacking tool called Sumo (that allows me to switch pop-ups off for mobile users, in addition to display forms precisely as I’d like to and on the webpages I want). On the whole, Getresponse is really simple to use. It’s certainly easy enough to do all of the basics: import contacts, create campaigns, set up autoresponders and check numbers and the interface is pretty clean and intuitive.
With regards to how it stacks up against its rivals in this respect, I would assert that Campaign Monitor is a tiny bit more user friendly, and Mailchimp includes a slicker user interface (though one which makes finding certain performance a bit tricky at times).
One place I think that might be significantly better from a user-friendliness standpoint is that the Getresponse e-newsletter editor.
Whilst its drag-and-drop strategy does in theory provide a very flexible way to create blocks of articles and move them around an e-newsletter, in practice it’s quite clunky to use and can cause accidental deletion of material, or positioning of it at the incorrect portion of the e-newsletter.
If you can get your head about it, and practice using it a little bit, it will make for a useful tool – it is only that the execution of it could be rather better.
Additionally, as described above, the CRM instrument might be better from a usability point of view adding contacts to deals could be difficult.
The 30-day free trial which Getresponse supplies is completely operational and the free trial isn’t contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and today I am getting charged for a product that I do not use” scenario.
The only down side to this free trial is the fact that it limits the number of subscribers you can send to 1000. It would be useful if that could be raised a bit, as it would help prospective users try out the tool in more’real-world’ scenarios.

Pricing Vs Competitors
So long as you’re happy to use one of those entry-level’Email’ programs, the pay-per-month Getresponse programs are on the whole more affordable than those supplied by many of its key competitors, especially if you’ve got a reasonably large number of email addresses onto your own database.
For instance, in case you’ve got a mailing list containing between 9,000 and 10,000 records which you wish to send an unlimited number of mails per month to, you might find that hosting it with Getresponse costs $65 monthly.

Decision Campaign Monitor’s pricing structure depends not only the amount of email addresses in your own database however on how many emails you send a month also. If you’re happy to limit the number of mails delivered via Campaign Monitor (from the example above, to 50k emails), you can expect to pay a monthly charge of $89, still substantially greater than Getresponse’s.
The sole well-known service that I could think of that comes from significantly cheaper is Mad Mimi, which costs $42 per month to host up to 10,000 email addresses (note however that the functionality provided by Mad Mimi is nowhere near as broad as Getresponse’s or really another products mentioned previously ).
It’s also worth pointing out that Mailchimp offers narrower pricing bands, meaning that depending on the size of your listing, it may occasionally be a slightly cheaper option than Getresponse.
In the smaller database end of things, Getresponse’s pricing is pretty competitive too – you can sponsor a database comprising 1,000 email addresses for $15 a month with Getresponse, compared to $29 with Aweber; $59 on Campaign Monitor (unlimited send).
Mailchimp’s monthly fee for a 1,000 record database will be the same as Getresponse’s; and Mad Mimi provides a marginally more affordable, if much less operational offering for $12 a month.
Two final things to be aware of on the pricing :
Some competing providers — especially Mailchimp – offer completely free account for users that have a few records (but these do not offer the entire assortment of features that you get on a paid program ).
As stated earlier, if you are prepared to pay upfront for 1 or two decades, you can avail of significant discounts the other competitors do not yet supply.
So the bottom line is that Getresponse is fairly competitive in the pricing section. However, what about attributes? Email Marketing Software Api
Getresponse represents one of the more cost-effective tactics to host and communicate with an email .
It’s also one of the most intriguing products of its kind – in that it provides email marketing, landing pages, CRM and webinars all under one roof. It’s difficult to think of any competing product that offers this’all round’ proposal, and it’s what continues to persuade us to utilize it for Style Factory’s email marketing.
Some developments to Getresponse do need to be made however, especially where the email designer is concerned – its own drag and drop interface is more fiddly and less responsive than it ought to be. A good deal of improvements can be made into the data capture forms also, particularly for users wishing to exhibit them on mobile devices.
And from what I gather from reader opinions, there are developments which could be made to the support offering.
Overall though I speed Getresponse very highly – you receive substantial bang for your buck with this product.
