Background Email Marketing Services
When I asked you to name an email Marketing tool, what could you say? Email Marketing Services
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like many online industries today, email marketing has been Dominated by the same large players for the last ten years. Which means they get promoted very heavily and accomplish a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time users to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done exactly that.
So today, in this review, I will be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to see if it really stands its ground against the big boys…
…and, more importantly, whether youshould consider making the change.

Like most email marketing providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the software.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to finish your profile.
This includes information like your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, record size and even the kind of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain ).
This is still part of the acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to that domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and ascertain whether you’re a good fit for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you won’t have the ability to send anything until approved.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limit of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
But while these measures are not perfect for getting started, it Does help stop unscrupulous users from hurting everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely on automations to handle The majority of your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That is where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Produce Campaign’ will give you several choices.
– Regular effort: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, such as subject line, from title and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to readers who Don’t open your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few additional options, the Majority of these will follow The same step-by-step process of a normal campaign.
So let’s walk you through it.
Once you click on to create your campaign, you’ll be asked to Pick a preferred editor, whether that be the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — which will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to choose From which is somewhat on the low side, but the designs are super modern.
And, of course, if you’d just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll choose the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include different Kinds of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and social links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be taken to the recipients’ options where you are able to select your classes or sections.
The tab also allows one To build segment-like rules , in the event your targeting isn’t quite perfect.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control when your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Services
Handling Your Subscribers
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most essential aspects of any email marketing software today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are looking to increase opens, clicks, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your subscribers belong to a segment only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically inserted or removed accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can even blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule when the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are updated manually or via an Automation principle — that we’ll get to in a minute — and they have no value aside from what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple subscribers collectively according to a frequent denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I feel it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Last, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this area with their particular fields, such as name, business, and nation.
If You Would like to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking on the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV file of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or can easily add these fields to a types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I made and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the shape Things here since I have a whole section on that below, but this is the strategy I’d recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, once you’ve gathered your custom field data from new Readers, you can pull them into your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and select your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it is important to know this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to say MailerLite has their subscriber Direction and personalization features on point. Email Marketing Services
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you will be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Isn’t winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, like most people, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They finally do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is already better than some dedicated alternatives *cough* WPBakery.
Together with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero sections, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it will not be replacing landing Page builders like Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this thing over-delivers on all 3 form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email advertising tools, MailerLite actually Provides a Adequate set of type building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover here.
Let’s start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To customize everything from the kind style, subjects, background, name, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a chance To visualize your backup in real-time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates here, but as you know, there is more to some form than simply its appearance.
Clicking the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure the way the Form functions, such as adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded kind and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on mobile by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to check, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of this Embedded form but as I said before, you can also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the majority of this installation process is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded forms, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth choice, they do provide a good base to work from and the editor is just as easy to use for this form kind.
Clicking on the’E-commerce’ template requires me to a preview Before moving into the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new choices under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid tools such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform with the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Last, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have both.
That is where most email Marketing platforms will leave you, but MailerLite has one more trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like many tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the main dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from campaign open and click data, Subscriber growth, automation analytics, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but if you really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
For example, the’View Mail’ tab also shows a click map, so You can see precisely how your subscribers interacted with your emails in relation to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, although I found to be less insightful than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available data more than sufficient to fulfill their demands.
What’s email advertising without a dashboard of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could easily make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can not be said for every email marketing program.
After setting your trigger, you can begin adding steps to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a conditional split, or an act, like transferring a subscriber or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities in regards to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should have no trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into a different automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different groups that activate new automation workflows. It’s just not as efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficacy here is when generating new emails From the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email cube to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line which appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Writer:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve established your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back to the automations workflow rather than the usual sending alternatives.
Ultimately, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A Wonderful touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, so you can find an idea about what it contains at a glance.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is actually much quicker than what I’m utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you have come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you’ll likely find this a downgrade in functionality.
It’s quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this section, there is one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and I think it’s important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite at this time, so if it’s something you use or plan to use, you may want to skip this one. Email Marketing Services
The cost of MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the tools biggest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a good bargain.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding on your mails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the premium plans?
It ends up, at approximately half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is by far one of the least expensive options available on the market. Plus, if you are ready to pay yearly, you are also able to get a much better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among the few email advertising tools to interrupt The (very crowded) industry in recent decades, which is no simple feat.
While it is not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it works exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
Overall, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
