Background Email Marketing Partners
When I asked you to name an email Marketing instrument, what would you say? Email Marketing Partners
MailChimp? Aweber? ActiveCampaign?
Like most online industries now, email advertising continues to be Dominated by the identical big players for the last decade. Which means that they get encouraged very deeply and achieve a great deal of mindshare.
Now and then, however, an Underdog disrupts the market, inducing long-time customers to question their loyalties.
MailerLite has done precisely that.
So today, in this review, I’ll be tearing MailerLite from limb To limb to find out if it really stands its ground against the big boys…

Like most email advertising providers these days, you will need to Go through a review process before being able to properly use the program.
When you first register, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information like your company name, website, Business, address, company size, record size and even the kind of content you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is related to this domain so they could email you a verification link.
Once you’ve completed those Measures, you’ll need to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, check your Site, and ascertain whether you are a good match for their services.
(In other words, they’re making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As shown above, you’ll still be Able to utilize the software to create campaigns and perform with the features, but you won’t have the ability to send anything before approved.
I was”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here Is What the email said:
However, while these steps aren’t ideal for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to Deal with The majority of your email advertising.
(We will get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it’s a brand new blog article, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always some excuse to send a more instant email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the new’Create Campaign’ will give you several options.
– Regular campaign: A Conventional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Versions, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not open your broadcast email, together with the choice of altering the subject line and email articles.
– RSS campaign: Produce a recurring campaign That sends new content to subscribers using your site’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added choices, most of these will follow The exact same step-by-step process of a standard campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
As Soon as You click on to create your campaign, you’ll be requested to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can switch to the Templates tab and choose from one of their pre-designed email templates — that will move you into the dragn’ drop editor by default.
At the time of writing, there are 21 email templates to select From which is a little on the low side, however, the layouts are super modern.
And, of course, if you would just Prefer to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this instance, I will select the first template from the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the cubes in the sidebar to include distinct Kinds of articles to your email, including videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you’ll Be carried to the recipients’ options where you can choose your groups or segments.
The tab also allows one To develop segment-like rules on-the-fly, in the event your targeting is not quite right.
Finally, right before sending, you’ll get into the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or in accordance with your subscribers time zones.
Impressive, right? Email Marketing Partners
Managing Your Clients
Having granular control over your subscribers is arguably one of The most important facets of any email marketing program today.
Because highly personalized campaigns are necessary if You are looking to increase clicks, opens, and, most importantly, your own conversions.
And while many providers allow you to”tag” subscribers in order To target them more effectively, MailerLite utilizes a slightly different strategy.
When you start up your subscriber dashboard, you’ll see two Choices; Segments and Groups.
Segments are basically principles.
Your subscribers belong to a section only when they meet the Specified principles, and will be automatically inserted or eliminated so.
Here is what setting up a rule looks like:
Notice the way you can even combine Rules, in addition to an alternate rule if the first does not exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for groups, and also the difference in title, These behave much like your normal”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the title to’Tags’, but finally decided against it.)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or via an Automation rule — which we will get to in a minute — and they have no value besides what you actually call them.
As you start to use this platform, you’ll begin to understand At which Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite delivers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate action on a per-subscriber basis, whereas Segments permit you to bulge multiple contributors together based on a frequent denominator.
A tad confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it’s a fair trade-off For the added flexibility. Besides, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to personalize your email copy.
You’ll notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do so by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they really work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in distinct columns… or may easily add these fields to your types which will only apply to prospective readers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test field I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much into the form Things here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the approach I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve collected your custom field data from new Readers, you are able to pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I am barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know that this is a feature you may use.
Overall, it’s reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. Email Marketing Partners
If you’re not impressed with what you have seen up to Now, then perhaps The page builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ in the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template selection Is not winning any awards, it will offer a great foundation to work from if, for example the majority people, you do not have that natural eye for design.
I went ahead and chosen the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all ultimately do the same task; collect an email address.
This time, the editor will Provide you 17 building blocks to Further build or change your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and it is better than a few dedicated solutions *Infection * WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use elements like Hero segments, popup buttons, testimonials and countdown timers.
No, it won’t be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or even LeadPagesanytime shortly, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite actually offers a Decent set of form building tools.
Also, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this exact same interface, so there’s a whole lot to cover .
Let us start with your Bog-standard embedded form.
These forms are first created inside MailerLite so as to get An embed code, which you can then put on your website to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer allows you To personalize everything from the kind style, fields, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text may also be edited directly, which gives you a chance To envision your own copy in real time.
It would have been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there’s more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will Make It Possible for you to configure how the Form works, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is even a GDPR compliance option. Sweet.)
And talking of the success page…
…MailerLite also enables you to customize the default message, That will replace the embedded kind and prevents users from redirecting.
Last but certainly not least, you Can assess how your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to responsive mode.
You won’t Have the Ability to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that’s an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you can even create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this installation Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d love to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do offer a fantastic base to work from and the editor is just as simple to use with this form type.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template takes me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are a few new options under form types This time around:
Contemplating paid programs such as Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it is pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup types.
And, as before, you can perform the styling options to get it Matched with your branding.
Finally, you can choose the close Behaviour of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap out this for A”No thanks” text option, or have .
That is really where most email Marketing platforms would render you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.
Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your effort Data in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and form signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for this effort.
This is where you’ll find a few more advanced statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, reading surroundings, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average consumer…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into different areas of the report to get a more comprehensive breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also displays a click map, so It’s possible to see precisely how your readers interacted to one another.
Reports for automations are also Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found these to be less enlightening than campaign reports.
Here’s a Fast example:
Overall, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting interface, and many will find the available statistics more than enough to fulfill their demands.
What’s email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you’ve ever used a visual workflow builder, You’ll immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, The automations interface is easy, clean and simple to navigate — something that certainly can’t be said for each and every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can begin adding measures to your workflow.
These measures can be anything from sending an email, adding a Delay, a bubble break, or an action, such as transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a simple workflow I put together, where readers Are unsubscribed when they do not open my email within 7 days.
There are innumerable Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the vast majority of use cases.
Granted, it’s not quite as Feature-rich as something like ActiveCampaign because it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.)
For example, there’s currently no automation for transferring Subscribers directly into another automation.
That being said, most of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into various groups that trigger new automation workflows. It’s just not as effective…. yet.
Another matter of efficacy here is when creating new mails In the automation workflow builder.
After adding an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to add your subject line which then appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be temporarily Redirected to the standard campaign creation wizard, which I covered previously in the critique.
This time, but as Soon as You’ve created your email, clicking the ‘Done editing’ button will guide you back into the automations workflow rather than the usual sending options.
Finally, your email will probably be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is having a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means it’s possible to get an concept of what it contains at a glimpse.
While this process may seem like A grind on newspaper, it is really much quicker than what I am utilized to with other email marketing tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something like ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, you will probably find this a downgrade in performance.
It is quick enough for me, Personally, however I guess it’s all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there is one type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, and that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your site.
This Sort of behavioral targeting just isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or intend to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing Partners
The Price of MailerLite is undoubtedly among the tools largest Selling things, and let us face it, we all love a fantastic deal.
For starters, they offer an infinite free plan that includes All attributes (including premium) for up to 1,000 subscribers.
While there is some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for those starting out.
And what about the top programs?
It turns out, at around half of the Cost of the competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the cheapest options on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay annually, you can also get a much greater discount.
In fact, I haven’t been able to find anything that does exactly the same job, cheaper.
MailerLite is among those few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in the last couple of years, and that’s no simple feat.
While it’s not as quickly as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at just about anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the perfect balance Between flexibility, simplicity and speed, and at a price point you will seriously struggle to beat.
