Getresponse’s feature set is possibly among the most comprehensive out there.
Not only does this provide all of the key stuff you’d expect from an email marketing platform – list templates, hosting, autoresponders, analytics and so on, but as mentioned previously, it’s been expanding the attribute set to the point at which it’s morphing into an all-in-one / CRM-style marketing platform.
The question is whether Getresponse is a jack of all trades and master of none – let us drill down into the key features to find out.
Up until quite recently Getresponse service was amongst the most comprehensive available for email advertising tools: the firm offered phone support alongside live chat support, email service and various online tutorials / resources.
Regrettably, the telephone service has now been discontinued. Instead you’ll have to use live chat (24/7) or email service. Concerning the quality of Getresponse support, I have not had to use it quite frequently (a fantastic thing) but once I have I have discovered it for a bit of a mixed bag (less of a fantastic thing). Some of those live chat service I have received was outstanding, and I haven’t needed to wait too long to chat with a broker; the email support .

So far so good with Getresponse, however, in regards to templates, Getresponse arguably falls down a little.
Unfortunately, the templates supplied from the box look a bit dated; they are not as attractive as the ones provided by Mailchimp or Campaign Monitor (and that I slightly prefer Aweber’s offering here too).
On the other hand, the templates are very tweakable – you can change fonts, layouts and vision easily enough with all the controls supplied; and naturally there’s nothing to prevent you simply designing your HTML email template and importing the code for this.
Furthermore, there are a lot of templates to choose from — over 500 — and they’re presented in easy-to-understand categories, therefore it’s generally pretty simple to find a good starting point for a template and then edit it until you are happy with the plan.
If you’re really unhappy with the templates provided by Getresponse, there is also the option of buying a template from a third party supplier such as Theme Forest.

Autoresponders are e-newsletters that are sent to your readers at intervals determined by you — you can put them up so that instantly after somebody signs up to a mailing list, they get a welcome message in your company; a week later they can receive a discount offer for some of your goods or services; 3 months later they could obtain an encouragement to follow you on social media. Getresponse’s autoresponder functionality is an integral selling point – it offers among the most extensive feature sets available.

This kind of functionality goes far beyond what’s traditionally been available from autoresponders, and allows you to create a user travel which may be customised to the nth level.

Landing page Builder

If you’re serious about landing pages – plus they are unquestionably a useful feature – then it is definitely worth considering among the more expensive Getresponse plans.
You can buy the Landing Pages feature as an add-on for an additional $15 per month, but very frustratingly, although the add-on permits you to display an infinite amount of landing pages to prospective subscribers, it does not consist of A/B testing.
Therefore, if I had been interested in the Getresponse landing page functionality, I wouldn’t bother with this rather half-baked add-on: I would just go for one of the more expensive programs (which I guess is exactly what Getresponse want one to do!) .

One of the most frustrating aspects of using many well-known CRM tools is the need to export information to CSV and back to your email marketing instrument in order to perform mailouts (or the need to export info from your email marketing tool in your CRM to add prospects to it).
So when I saw Getresponse recently introducing a new CRM attribute in their plans I was intrigued – this could potentially do away with all that info exporting and exporting, and keep everything neatly in one place.
Initially I was not that impressed with all the Getresponse CRM tool since you can only use it in order to perform quite basic tasks: you could create sales pipelines, add contacts to these and monitor activity (mails, telephone calls etc.) with these contacts manually.
But recently Getresponse have upped their video game a bit on this particular front. The CRM is currently integrated with all of Getresponse’s email marketing operation and you can add users to a CRM pipeline based on their action (form completions, email opens, purchases etc.) or activate autoresponders depending on the accession of a new contact to a pipeline phase.
An example of how you could use this functionality is as follows:
You can add a contact to a specific point on a sales pipeline based on the page of your site that they finished a form ;
you can then send a automated email tailored to that pipeline period a couple of days later;
and dependent on the action they took with regard to this email (clicking on a certain link etc) you can automatically move them onto another phase of the pipeline and invite invite them to a webinar.
It’s very clever stuff, and that I can not think of any email marketing product offering such a tight integration between autoresponders and CRM pipelines. For this kind of functionality you normally need to appear at dedicated — and more costly — CRM products such as Salesforce and Infusionsoft.
However, it is not all fantastic news on the CRM front — there are some big things missing from Getresponse’s CRM attribute collection.
The most glaring omission is e mail activity tracking. There’s now no way of doing this with all the Getresponse CRM, nor is there an simple way to send one-to-one emails to prospects or clients.
And oddly, when you click on a contact in a deal pipeline, you can’t see their contact action — i.e., the actions they have taken (open, clicks etc.) in regards to previous communications that you have sent to your prospects are not displayed. To see this, you need to go from the CRM section of Getresponse, search for your own contact in the contacts section and click in their details. But guess what? Doing this doesn’t display their history.
Task management is non-existent too: Unlike committed CRM tools, there’s no way to assign tasks to other team members.
Eventually, adding contacts into a pipeline stage is tough. You have to add contacts to a list , then visit the CRM pipeline, add a bargain and search your lists to receive the contact you just added. From a usability point of view this is extremely clunky and time consuming. You should just have the ability to put in a bargain right to a pipeline and enter the contact details of your guide or customer at the point.
So as things stand, the Getresponse CRM is a bit half-baked. But that said, it is a new feature and the stuff it could perform on the automation aspect is remarkable. I am optimistic that this feature gets developed over time because done right, it is possibly a game-changer for entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Getresponse recently introduced the ability to host webinars on the stage.
Given that webinars are usually used as a lead-generation strategy, the notion of getting your email database and your webinar tool under precisely the exact same roof is very attractive.

If you can get your head around it, and practice using it a little bit, it does make for a helpful instrument – it’s just that the execution of it might be rather better.
Additionally, as explained above, the CRM tool could be far better from a usability point of view — adding contacts to deals can be difficult.
The 30-day complimentary trial which Getresponse supplies is completely operational and the free trial is not contingent upon supplying credit card information.
This makes it possible to avoid that annoying”oops I forgot I signed up for that trial and now I am getting charged for a commodity that I do not use” scenario.
