Sign-up Process
Like most email advertising providers Nowadays, You’ll Need to Go through a review process before being able to correctly use the program.
When you first sign up, you’ll be asked to complete your profile.
This includes information such as your organization name, website, Industry, address, business size, list size and also the type of material you plan to send.
Then, you need to verify your Website (or domain name).
This is still part of this acceptance process, and MailerLite will Simply inquire which email is associated to this domain in order that they could email you a confirmation link.
As Soon as You’ve completed these Measures, you ought to wait it out.
The MailerLite staff will review your application, assess your Website, and ascertain whether you are a fantastic fit for their services.
(In other words, they are making sure you are not a spammer/scammer)
As revealed above, you’ll nevertheless be Able to utilize the software to make campaigns and play with the attributes, but you will not have the ability to send anything until accepted.
I had been”partially” approved within a few hours, which gave me a Temporary limitation of 500 subscribers.
Here’s what the email said:
Annoying, certain.
But while these measures aren’t perfect for getting started, it Does help prevent malicious users from damaging everyone else’s deliverability.
Campaigning
If you are anything like me, you’ll rely upon automations to handle Nearly all your email advertising.
(We’ll get to automations soon, do not worry.)
But if it is a brand new blog post, podcast, or timely Announcement, there is always a reason to send a more immediate email.
That’s where’Campaigns’ come in.
Clicking the brand new’Produce Campaign’ will provide you several choices.
– Regular campaign: A traditional broadcast email.
– A/B split campaign: Multiple email Variations, including subject line, from name and, yes, even email content. (Woop!)
– Auto resend: Resend to subscribers who Do not start your broadcast email, with the option of changing the subject line and email articles.
– RSS effort: Create a recurring campaign That sends new content to readers using your website’s RSS feed.
Apart from a few added options, the Majority of these will follow Exactly the exact same step-by-step procedure of a normal campaign.
So let us walk you through it.
Once you click to create your effort, you’ll be asked to Select a favorite editor, whether that’s the dragn’ drop, rich text or HTML.
You can change to the Templates tab and choose from among their pre-designed email templates — that will move you to the dragn’ drop editor .
At the time of writing, you’ll find 21 email templates to select From which is somewhat on the low side, however, the designs are super contemporary.
And, of course, if you would just Like to reuse a previous email, you can click the’Recent Emails’ tab.
For this example, I’ll select the first template in the library.
The editor is easy to use, Which makes viewing these templates a 5-minute job.
You can also use the blocks in the sidebar to include distinct Types of content to your email, such as videos, product columns, and societal links.
After making your changes, simply click’Done Editing’ and you will Be taken to the recipients’ options where you can select your classes or segments.
The tab also allows you To build segment-like rules on-the-fly, in case your targeting is not quite perfect.
Finally, before sending, then you’ll get to the’Program’ screen.
This is where you control if your broadcast email should go Out, if that’s instantly, at a set time/date, or according to your subscribers time zones.

Handling Your Clients
Having granular control over your readers is arguably one of The most essential facets of any email marketing software today.
Why?
Because highly personalized efforts are necessary if You’re searching to increase clicks, opens, and, above all, your own conversions.
And while most providers Permit You to”label” readers in order To target them effectively, MailerLite uses a slightly different approach.
When you open up your subscriber dash, you’ll notice two Options; Segments and Groups.
Segments are essentially rules.
Your readers belong to a section only when they fulfill the Specified principles, and are automatically added or removed accordingly.
Here is what establishing a rule looks like:
Notice how you can also blend Rules, as well as an alternate rule if the first doesn’t exist.
Pretty smart, eh?
The following tab is for classes, and despite the difference in name, These act much like your usual”tagging” system.
(MailerLite even debated Changing the name to’Tags’, but ultimately decided against it)
Contrary to Segments, Groups are upgraded manually or through an Automation rule — that we will get to in a moment — and they don’t have any value besides what you call them.
As you Begin to use this stage, you’ll begin to understand Where Segments and Groups are typically used, however, MailerLite offers a hand in case you’re unsure:
Basically, groups are much more of a Deliberate activity on a per-subscriber foundation, whereas Segments allow you to lump multiple contributors together according to a common denominator.
Somewhat confusing, I’ll admit… but I believe it is a fair trade-off For the additional flexibility. In any case, they’re discretionary.
Finally, the’Fields’ tab is used to customize your email copy.
You will notice that MailerLite has Already populated this region with their own areas, such as name, business, and country.
If you want to create your own custom fields, you can do this by Clicking the’Add new field’ button.
So how do they actually work?
You can either upload a CSV record of your readers along with Your custom field information in separate columns… or may easily add these fields to a forms which will only apply to prospective subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of a test area I created and added to a form:
I won’t go too much to the form Stuff here because I have an entire section on that below, but this is the strategy I would recommend if you wished to use this attribute.
Again, as Soon as You’ve gathered your custom field information from fresh Readers, you can pull them in to your email content and subject line.
Just click on the’Personalization’ drop down and choose your Custom field.
I’m barely scratching the surface Of what’s possible with custom fields, but it’s important to know this is a feature you can use.
Overall, it is reasonable to state MailerLite has their contributor Management and personalization features on point. Email Marketing Cost Per Email
Landing pages.
If you are not impressed with what you have seen so far, then perhaps The webpage builder will tickle your fancy.
After selecting’Landing Pages’ from the forms page, then you’ll be Able to pick from 8 pre-designed templates.
Again, while the template choice Is not winning any awards, it does offer a fantastic base to work from if, like most of us, you don’t have that natural eye for layout.
I went ahead and selected the’Lead Generation’ template, however They all finally do the identical task; accumulate an email address.
This time, the editor will give you 17 building blocks to Further build or alter your landing page.
Now, I have used my fair share of Visual page builders, and this is better than some dedicated solutions *cough* WPBakery.
Along with the fundamental building blocks, you can use components like Hero segments, popup buttons, reviews and countdown timers.
It will not be replacing landing Page builders such as Thrive Architect or LeadPagesanytime soon, but credit where credit due, this item over-delivers on all three form types.
Form Builder Tool
Unlike some email marketing tools, MailerLite really offers a Decent pair of form building tools.
Not only that, but you can also create popups and landing pages Through this same interface, so there is a whole lot to cover .
Let’s begin with your Bog-standard embedded type.
These forms are created inside MailerLite in order to get An embed code, which you can then place on your site to show it on specific pages.
Despite starting off super fundamental, the form designer lets you To personalize everything in the form style, subjects, background, title, input fields and, clearly, the button.
Form text can also be edited directly, which Provides you a Opportunity To envision your own backup in real-time.
It would’ve been nice to have Some templates, but as you know, there is more to a form than simply its physical appearance.
Clicking on the’Settings’ tab will allow you to configure how the Form functions, including adding additional fields and establishing a custom success page.
(There is a GDPR compliance alternative. Sweet.)
And speaking of the success webpage…
…MailerLite also lets you customize the default message, Which can replace the embedded form and prevents users .
Last but certainly not least, you Can check the way your form screens on cellular by shifting the toggle to reactive mode.
You won’t be able to make any layout changes here, but it makes Sense to test, nevertheless.
So that is an Summary of the Embedded form but as I said before, you may also create popup forms in MailerLite.
While the Vast Majority of this setup Procedure is identical, you will find A few differences I’d like to point out.
Unlike embedded kinds, you can choose between a set of Templates:
While this isn’t the most In depth selection, they do provide a fantastic foundation to work from and the editor is at least as simple to use with this form kind.
Clicking the’E-commerce’ template requires me into a preview Before moving to the editor.
Here, you’ll notice there are some new options under form types Now around:
Considering paid programs like Thrive Leads exist for both ribbons and slide-in forms, it’s pretty impressive to see this amount of control over popup forms.
And, like before, you can play with the styling options to get it Matched up with your branding.
Last, you can Select the close Behavior of your type under the’Settings’ tab.
The default option is that the X icon, but you can swap this out for A”No thanks” text choice, or have both.
This is where most email Marketing platforms would leave you, but MailerLite has yet another trick up its sleeve.

Reporting & Analytics
Like most tools, you’ll find a summary of your campaign Statistics in the dashboard.
Here you’ll see everything from effort open and click info, Subscriber growth, automation stats, and kind signups.
Clicking into any campaign will Give you specific reporting for that effort.
This is where you’ll discover some statistics such as Unsubscribes, spam complaints, bounces, studying environment, email client and more.
This should be plenty of Information for the average user…
…but in Case You really want To dig into the numbers, you can click into individual areas of the report for a more detailed breakdown.
You can find some real gems under These reports.
By Way of Example, the’View Email’ tab also shows a click map, so It’s possible to see exactly how your subscribers interacted to another.
Reports for automations are Available under the’Automations’ tab, even although I found to be less insightful than effort reports.
Here’s a quick example:
Total, MailerLite does a Stellar job with their reporting port, and most will find the available statistics more than sufficient to meet their demands.
Email Automation
What is email marketing without a dash of automation?
For most reading this, MailerLite’s automation capabilities Could simply make or break this review.
The great news? If you have ever used a visual workflow builder, You will immediately feel at home here…
Much like the rest of MailerLite, That the automations interface is simple, clean and easy to navigate — something which certainly can’t be said for every email marketing program.
After establishing your trigger, you can Start adding measures to your workflow.
These measures could be anything from sending an email, including a Delay, a bubble break, or an act, like transferring a contributor or updating their records.
Here’s a straightforward workflow I set together, where subscribers Are unsubscribed if they don’t open my email within seven days.
There are countless Possibilities when it comes to workflow automations like this, and MailerLite should not have any trouble with the huge majority of use cases.
Granted, it is not quite as Feature-rich as something such as ActiveCampaign since it lacks some of the conditional components. (Split, Go To, Goal, etc.. )
For Instance, there’s now no automation for moving Readers directly into another automation.
That being said, the Majority of these activities can still be achieved by moving Subscribers into different classes that trigger new automation workflows. It is just much less efficient…. yet.
Another question of efficiency here is when generating new mails From the automation workflow builder.
After having an email block to The workflow, you will be asked to put in your topic line that appears on the block itself.
From there, clicking on the’Design email’ button will automatically fire up the Editor:
Now, you’ll be briefly Redirected to the typical campaign creation wizard, which I covered earlier in the review.
This time, however, once you’ve established your email, clicking on the ‘Done editing’ button will direct you straight back into the automations workflow instead of the usual sending options.
Ultimately, your email address will be Loaded into your own automation.
A nice touch here is using a thumbnail preview of your Email inside your automation cube, which means you can find an concept about what it contains at a glimpse.
While this procedure may seem like A grind on paper, it is really much faster than what I am used to with other email advertising tools — ActiveCampaign being a great example.
On the other hand, if you’ve come over from something such as ConvertKit where The editor is loaded inside the automations builder, so you will likely find that this downgrade in performance.
It is fast enough for me, Personally, but I guess it is all relative.
Before I wrap up this segment, there’s 1 type of automation You will not find in MailerLite, also that I think that it’s very important to highlight.
Site tracking.
The ability to trigger an automation (or step) based on the way Subscribers interact with all the pages on your website.
This kind of behavioral targeting only isn’t available in MailerLite right now, so if it’s something you use or plan to utilize, you might want to skip this one. Email Marketing Cost Per Email

Pricing
The cost of MailerLite is among those tools biggest Selling points, and let us face it, most of us love a good deal.
For starters, they offer an unlimited free plan that includes All features (including premium) for as many as 1,000 subscribers.
While There’s some subtle Branding in your emails using this plan, it is still an wonderful option for anyone starting out.
And what about the top plans?
It turns out, at approximately half of the Price of this competition on average, MailerLite is undoubtedly one of the least expensive options on the market. Additionally, if you’re willing to pay yearly, you are also able to get an even better discount.
In fact, I have not been able to locate anything that does the same job, cheaper.
Conclusion
MailerLite is among the few marketing tools to interrupt The (very crowded) sector in recent years, which is no simple feat.
While it’s not as fast as ConvertKit, or as feature-rich As ActiveCampaign, or as template-heavy as MailChimp, it performs exceptionally well at virtually anything you can throw at it.
All in all, I find MailerLite strikes the best balance Between flexibility, speed and simplicity, and all at a price point you’ll seriously struggle to beat.
